On the axle nuts loosening, The shock & speed is not exactly the problem. The loosening is caused by the forward & reverse slop in the hex. With the pin type hex (even Vanquish) or the new keyed hex, there is too much slop and no way to shim it out.
Double nut or locktite help but, I don't think its a cure. The hex needs to be rigidly attached to the axle. Problem is, there is a bearing behind the hex.

My new set of SSD axles fit the locker better than ever but, the slop at the hex is a shame. With the slop, We might see these getting rounded out instead of broken pins.

That isnt from the SSD axle. Every time you install and remove a locknut you loose some of its locking ability. My Ascender and (stock axle) Bomber does the same thing.

The better locknuts are also milled on the back/flat surface. My Tekno has a set of them but I havent put any on my crawlers yet.

My buddy just bent his first set of the new hardened shafts and titanium hexes. shaft bent in the same place and looks like it has a slight twist to it too. tekin pro 4 hd 3500kv on 3s so nothing crazy for power.

Any input on what happened when it bent?

I'm still going strong, and I was trying to push it, where before I couldn't even roll it on accident.

I have both the HD's and stock shafts. Decided to use the stock shafts first and after 2 packs running a PRO4 HD I can say that I haven't bent an axle yet. I jump and bash mine and haven't caught a rear wheel on anything solid but I have flipped and slammed the rear wheels on plenty of jumps.

Would running a wide hub cause added stress to the area making it more prone to bend? I'm running 225's and not the stock wide hubs?

Wide hubs would surely add more stress.

I'm thinking this might be the issue, just can't see the cause being from a manufacturing or material defect.

I bent stock shafts quite a bit too.. I know from my primaries testing the HD shafts are stronger. I'd be interested to see where the claim above was bent. Before it was at the pin, revert single time.

I didn't have my stock axle long enough to bend the shaft...well until I hit the concrete wall that is. LOL

I'd be interested to see the twist as well, that would take quite a bit of torque, figured something else would give before the shaft was able to twist.

I run them in mine. They don't have a retainer for the spool so you have to make a shim to put in between the shafts (in the spool) to keep pressure so the don't slide in and out.

bent section is right at the flat for the hex. and the warped or twisted section is in the middle of the shaft
also its a yeti-x not a normal yeti. he is sending me pics cause I didn't take any the other day when we took the car apart.

The only thing I have found that worked is to use Traxxas serrated wheel nuts. 1747R are blue, 1747G are green.

Any updates? How HD shafts are holding up?

Im looking for solution to my bent shafts. Have Currie centered and already destroyed two pairs.

I will definitely go down from 850 hubs to 600 or even shorter. I will use titanium shafts from CREEPERBOB and I will also open rear diff. If all this does not prevent me from bending my shafts I will try my luck with SSD (maybe change rear end completely).

I have SSD HD axles and I bent them. I ordered some from CREEPERBOB. If that don't fix my wagon I'm gonna try the Metalconcepts rear diff. The scale TT builder guys are raving about the Metalconcepts parts.

Wheel hub size makes lot of difference. I swapped mine .850 SLW hubs for shorter .600 and it now takes much more beating to bend the shafts. I will probably go down to the .350 and it will be almost indestrictible.

Be careful, you can bend titanium shafts from CREEPERBOB. I have mine prepared together with 2 new pairs of shafts from Vanquish (got one as replacement). I will experiment with those first and if everything goes right I bombproof it by installing Ti shafts.

In case it will not work, I can go down to .225 and open rear diff.

Unless he fixed it the upper link mounts are single shear and the threaded hole is pretty shallow. If you are bending ssd shafts you will probably have issues with breaking screws and/or ripping the threads out of the holes. Another thing to consider is I am pretty sure they use slash gears which I think are a significantly different ratio than the axial stuff.....but the housings are damn sexy to look at

They are similar ratios. He has a Yeti specific axle too I believe.

The HD shafts are stronger for sure, that being said I'm sure they have limitations. In fact I know they do. I found them. Cartwheel from grass to asphalt. As soon as one of my wheels hit I knew it. Sure enough it bent.

Now, it didn't bend as much. And to be honest, it probably should have. I have a solid axle, aluminum wheels, solid foams and a heavy ass truck.. Something will give. I'm ok with it being the axle.
