Pirelli will be testing 18 inch tyres at Silverstone tomorrow. Is this the look of future F1 cars? http://www.racer.com/indycar/497-f1/105250-pirelli-reveals-18-inch-f1-tires |

Quite possibly but not for a few more years anyways. I don't like it. My first thought is this will force teams to completely redesign suspension EVERYTHING because the way it is now with the 13" wheels and all that sidewall flex, it's doing a lot of the work for the suspension. That'll be gone. More money to spend smaller teams don't have. I don't like how it looks personally. Not on a Formula car. Or maybe just any open wheel car. I like me some sidewall. I like watching it flex all over the place in super slow motion, knowing that's happening. |

I was waiting for that info to surface about that, as another forum was already mentioning it, but I had no idea what they were talking about. Interesting, kinda. Having built a weird mechanically linked together front and rear suspension crawler myself, I'm curious about their implementation just because that crawler was totally cool to me. |

Isn't that system like what Williams had in the early 90's with the electronic ride height and suspension? (Not same method of execution I know, but same principle I assume).

If the FRIC was only the reason for Merc domination then why the hell are everyone else running their power units kicking ass too? Even without FRIC, Merc are still P1/P2. Newey is going to bring with him to yacht design a mountain of new rules to slow him down. Excellence is aggressively regulated so that mediocrity prevails. J |

| Re: PeePee's F1 thread Quote: I can see both sides of the argument however on the moveable aero bits. On one hand, you physically aren't moving them at all, as it's the suspension doing the work, but on the other hand the front and rear wings are being moved by the suspension as it raises/lowers, which move those with it. | |

I'd say it's easy to understand if you're into this stuff. Hydraulics, actuators and a computer. It's like, active weight jacking. Car reacts to driver input, sensors pick up info and send it to computer which tells actuators to do something. If that was the case, a softer suspension will be moving the aero bits more than a stiff suspension, and that would be the same? |

Tires are a fixed entity. The rest is not. That article was focused on last year's Benz, if that makes any difference. It also said many teams use it. I bet all of them do. |

Probably the only thing left from last years version is the routing locations for the hydraulic/electrical lines, and maybe the lines themselves. | |

This one was good enough that I watched it twice. The Sky Sports broadcast. Brundle. Love. Great race. |

MB power unit runaway season continues... Great racing in the pack, but lead changes (other than Nico/Hamburger) would be nice. Take the money and run. #monotonezilch The engine development freeze under the guise of cost savings is total bull shit. I'd like to see teams have the ability to evolve their systems through-out the season. Given the off season testing bans why not let them test/upgrade during race weekends, the risk/reward will keep things interesting. |

Scrap the fuel restriction. Let them race. As Steve Matchett said it's racing, why save fuel? Hippies suck. J |

| Re: PeePee's F1 thread Heck yeah, let'm "race". why the Fu%( would you let the greatest technical group of racers be handicapped by BS rules like the FIA have instituted. These are race cars, not daily drivers. There's absolutely NOTHING street car related about them, no relevance at all. Just RACE CARS.

Maybe I am a little late in saying this, but man am I happy to see vettel struggle. I always thought the mark of a great driver was how well they perform when they have a lack luster car. Even Alonzo has a shoddy car and continually competes hard on race day. As far as MB is concerned, I am rooting for Hamilton as I always loved his aggressive driving style. Granted he has the bet car on the track, but despite his multiple DNF's and "bad luck" he is making this a great battle with Nico. speaking of Nico, no disrespect to him, as I think he has come a long way in his performances the last two seasons, but that "oopsie" at Monaco during qualifying was a planned out dance of BS. Bernie needs to cut the feul restriction, amd asa fan, I would love to see standing restarts just to make shit even more chaotic And what was the deal with the "no safety car" when Sutil stalled? Seems like FIA wanted a German driver to win because the safety car would have given Lewis a chance to fight for the win? Lastly, although none of this makes sense, I would like to see Button replace vettel, Vettel replace Raikonen, and Raikonen replace Button. I actually would like to see Raikonen in the Williams but that is just asking for too much. Hahaha Last edited by TSK; 07-21-2014 at 05:52 PM. |
