Kimi, yay. Next year hopefully. I think he's still settling in. Webber was good for the sport, from driving to Red Bull to interviews. I miss him. Loeb is too old now. This last weekend as they were discussing next year, they were talking to the '14 GP2 Champ. He said at 22 years old he's afraid, despite his recent championship, that at his age he'll be overlooked for a younger person for a seat in F1. Or you pay for it. |

Granted it might increase the audience watching F1 if Loeb got in, but with RB talking about a different engine supplier and even Lotus jumping ship on the Renault "power unit" and going McLaren next year, I don't see it working in Renault's favor. Like Kimi and Robert Kubica going to rally and doing poorly, it might be the same the other way around, where a rally guy can't do F1. He sure can hustle up Pikes Peak though. |

There was a time when Senna was in a car that couldn't win...it did. RB is talking about leaving...so screw them. I personally believe rally to be a much harder driving skill to handle, also why Pikes Peak since its fully paved has become far less entertaining. I only like Kimi because he's human. The others act so polished and proper....AKA boring as hell. Last edited by binaryterror; 10-14-2014 at 11:25 AM. |

Some of the 2015 rule changes are pretty interesting: - Safety Car restarts will now be a standing start from the grid. (I like this, for competition) - New regulations to ensure that the brake discs rotate at the same speed as the wheels. (WTF this is pretty wild idea) - A two-stage wheel fastener retaining system is now compulsory. (has anyone seen anything further on what this is?) |

Old news. The brake rotor thing I thought about for a long time and thought the idea might be to use gears to spin the rotor faster to aid in cooling. Like an internal planetary hub. The vanes would act like a squirrel cage fan, so just make em work harder by spinning them faster. It all come around right about the time Merc had rear brake overheating issues due to harvesting causing HAM to DNF. Oh and the wheel nut thing will possibly be a locking mechanism built into the axle stub that the nut spins onto, holding the nut in place incase it fails. |

So, they don't want planetaries in the hubs ? or brake discs in transmission ? two stage wheelnut retaining might be just a locking pin or secondary nut ( double nut lock ) as the conical shape it self works as lock on its own |

just a hunch, that's only other place where you can put a disc that don't rotate 1:1 with wheels ?

Totaly different but hear me out I,ve raced both dirt bikes ( enduro ) and sports bikes and reckon bitumen is way harder simply because the speeds are so much higher . The speed at which the corners come at you in a F1 car would be mind melting Miss your braking point by 10 meters in a rally car and it would be ass puckering but miss your braking point by 10 meteres in an F1 car and your helmet ends up going thru your ass | |

Threadjack: Sochi racing sucked. Worst race I've ever seen. Announcers, bored. Drivers, bored. Putin, looked bored. I've come to really dislike tracks devoid of elevation changes. Hopefully the event in Austin includes a race of F1 cars. J |

F1 cars drive on somewhat predictable surface, Rallycars drive on various sized ballbearings, F1 cars go what 325 km/h ? and they usualy stop from that speed when you hit the brake, rallycar will go 260 km/h and they don't stop no matter how hard you step on the pedal. F1 cars have safety barriers at the end of sand/grass field, rallycars have trees, and if they're lucky there's a ditch. Kimi tried WRC, He wasn't so good... F1 Drivers are precision drivers and Awesome at what they do, Rally Drivers are just MAD...

Rally racing, you get to drive the course 1 time, in a Recon vehicle that can be nothing like your rally car at slow speeds. Your co-driver must then take notes of everything and things that don't exist, but could (course wear out, dips for water collection). Then you go flying down these roads, which are not prepared in any way, at high rates of speeds with no map no braking zones marked, no curbs and huge open areas to slow or stop the car should it go off course, but a co-driver reading notes. Reading them without looking up as a reference only using a gps based odometer - its that fast. In F1 its the same course year after year, with allowed testing. And its an closed course, well prepared. WRC roads are roads, roads for cars. Here is a race that all drivers can enter - tests all the abilities in spec cars so the car can't win for them (aka VET 2014 cheats). Race of Champions: Race of Champions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia There is a strong reason why out of 25 events, only 3 F1 drivers have won - only 1 of which is competing in F1 this year and not doing well. Vettel and Shumi tried to win - never did. Last edited by binaryterror; 10-15-2014 at 08:28 AM. |

It's two different sports. We all know that. I give full, and equal credit to both types of drivers, because it certainly takes a specific type to excel at one or the other. You know who's good at more than one type of driving? Robby Gordon. Or am I mistaken? F1 drivers are machines than can replicate fast as **** laps for ~60 laps. Rally fags are machines than can whip out a fast lap going slideways almost out of control, yet in seemingly perfect control. They're probably thankful they only have to do it once. |
