That's not to say artillery can't ever be used for direct fire, but it is not really intended for that.
I recall my father saying a normally charged round had a 12 mile range while a supercharged shot could go 15 miles...had to have a forward observer in a Piper Cub to tell them if they were hitting anything. Tanks don't usually fire at targets they can't see.

We were trained that if our position was ever overrun be foot infantry from the front - to drop the tube, open the breech, throw in anything metal like chains, axes, ammo boxes, helmets, etc, throw a bag of gunpowder in behind it and blast the oncoming infantry with that maelstrom of metal crap. That could be considered direct fire.....

.
That sounds intimately hostile!

I know all about "lobbing rounds in an arc"...

Ex-USMC 81mm mortarman here.

Park our asses on one side of the hill and drop sh*t on the heads of people on the other side.

"Where'd the hell that come from?"

My late grand father in law was artillery in WWII. He wouldn’t talk much of the war but would open up every now and then to me. Even then it wasn’t much. He had saved all of his leave time to take at once so he could get married. When in London headed back stateside the war ended. He had survived freezing his nuts off in N. France at the Battle of the Bulge, too.

He did note that only a few days of all the time he spent did they ever actually be close enough to see buildings go down. Even then it was with optics. Normally everything was over the horizon and radioed in hit or miss.

Reminders me of the old "fire for effect" order.

Speaking of mortars, we will be getting some new ones too
The Cardom 10 from Austrian / Israeli ESLAIT

Seem like even i with no official weapons training will be able to drop 120 mm "eggs" on people with a few hours of practice.

I have a feeling these will be paired with a Piranha 5 vehicle ( 15 mortars ordered )

TBH i am embarrassed we haven't made our own mortars, its not like it are rocket science, and all you need are a GPS and gyro to know which direction it are leaning if the ground are not 100 % level for it and a fire control unit and some metal.
Where the rounds go are pretty self evident depending on the shell and propellant load-out ( as i understand it )
I am sure we could have pulled that off, maybe even made the damn things semi or full auto.

As the introduction of the Corvette C8 approaches, here's a look back in history as the last C6 nears the end of the assembly line at GM's Bowling Green Plant on March 8th, 2013.

That place was amazing when I took the tour with my dad in 99, we took his 93 40th Anniversary edition in the Caravan, good memories from then. Maybe some day I'll get it back there in his honor.

Thanks. It's been on my wishlist for 6 years or so. I'm excited about it. This is the 1st upgrade I've gotten for it since putting 1-ton axles under it, almost 7 years ago. Wow, really doesn't seem like that long.

And to get back to the "cool pics":

If they were gonna get serious with it then those wheels/ tires would've never made it anywhere close to that vehicle. No idea the kinds of performance or dyno #s but at first glance I'd say it gives off a "look how much I spent to make my marbles look like shooters" vibe.

I agree, close to if not stock height on stock wheels without the Bro-Truck clittler all over it, it might look good.
