Way cool, be looking at lots of stuff from Parkzone, Hanger9 and some of those battle type flying wings. The wife thinks I'm ready for the looney bin.

"You've never flown anything before" If only she knew half the truth.

40 plane combat

Long range FPV, bad @$$

Building scalers and an air-thingy might be a tall order, but it should be fun

After seeing the apprentice fly I honestly think that is the best bet for anyone new to flying to learn. Come hang out with us Stan and you can see first hand.

Haven't seen that fly, but I think the stryker is a good bet. It flys good slow at first, then it can go as fast as any of them.

It also takes a hell of a lickin' and keeps on tickin'

I can't see that apprentice hitting a goal post at full throttle and going right back at it.

Anywhere and everywhere.
So far we have flown at a field by C470 and Morrison, Chatfield airpark, green mountain middle school, a school over by Finishline an open field near Tim's house and the last place we flew was a huge astro turf field down in Castle rock with nothing near by.
Castle rock was kind the preferred choice because Chad is coming from the Springs, Tim is in Castle rock and Rodney and I are in Lakewood. Basically middle ground.

The stryker Im sure can take a hit better, but the thing about the Apprentice is its really controlled, so it is easier to fly, but still fun and has landing gear, plus a lot of options like floats, skis and bush tires.

Did I mention its huge as well?

Thing about just buying an airframe is you still need all the electronics. I think that will end up costing you more in the long run. I think you just need to bite the bullet Stan and drop a couple hundred.

That is good. Way easier to fly than the Corsair. You'll be a pro in no time.

X3...

TMY...are the warbirds tougher to fly than a high-wing trainer type plane like the apprentice?
That might have me re-thinking a plane choice.

If you are learning to fly then stay away from any low wing plane, they have a high wing loading which will cause them tip stall which equals broken plane. I have a parkzone t28 which is not a high wing but its wing loading is very low which means a tip stall is less likely. Its best if you body box because then if you get into trouble your buddy can recover the plane for you.

Also the warbirds do not have much dihedral which means the plane will not correct itself if you get into trouble.
