I've been looking at more. If we're all gonna have warbirds, I might as well get my favorite one. This one looks fun too with the 74" wingspan. It'd be fun to put a huge battery in it and go fly it around federal buildings. |

This is more what i would want from a predator drone from here, but my friend has that a10 and it looks good but is a little under powered if you buy the pnp or rtf versions. One thing to consider when ordering from a place like hobbyking, nitroplanes, bananahobby, etc they all use the cheapest electronics available and sometimes that causes failures. Just something to keep in mind if/when purchasing a very cheap plane.

Not quite as cool, but I like the large 61" wingspan, flaps, retracts and steerable tailwheel. It would make a cool GOpro platform Last edited by DeaDShorT; 02-01-2011 at 05:13 PM. |

I'm thinking of going with either a dx7 or the new dx8?? For the radio. Not sure which plane yet. I don't want anything so cheap that I have to replace it all anyway. However, I've never flown, so I'm sure I'll be crashing too. Might just start with the apprentice? Is there a better plane to start with?

If you want to hear all the sides here is a good place to look LINK just watchout for all the fights Do you have any simulator experience? if not then an apprentice with a buddy box that matches your transmitter and someone with experience may be good to keep your plane in one piece. If you have calm nerves and have simulator experience then you may be able to solo the plane but someone that knows how to fly should be buddy boxed with you. The bigger the plane the easier it is to fly however the more expensive it is to crash it, luckily the apprentice is foam and can easily glued back together with epoxy or even hot glue. The apprentice is as good of a plane as any to start with and you will step up at some time but because of the power of the plane and the high wing it may make for a good camera platform if you can find a place to miss the prop. If you want you can start with a t28 which is probably one of the easiest low wing planes out their to fly, but no matter what i would have an experienced pilot on the other end of the buddy box because for a newbie it can be a handful. Now to show you what about 8 grand and a lot of practice can give you

With my current planes I only use rudder, ailerons, throttle, and elevator. The steerable landing gear is set up on a y harness with the rudder. Thats only 4 other then that, flaps and retracts are a possibility, but that has me maxed out at 6 channels. From my experience you really don't need the plane to have a lot of buttons and things going on to have fun. What else could you possible want 7 or 8 channels for? (besides a heli). Save some money on the radio and buy some extra parts for your plane, you'll need them if you fly with us.

Thanks Ty, extra parts is a great idea. Does anyone ever fly on Monday's or Tuesday's? Those are my days off at the moment...

A big way to see how hard a plane is to fly is by how large the control surfaces are and by how far they throw. The more they move and the bigger they are the harder they are to fly. Your best bet is going to be a hi wing, especially with limited simulator experience.

Just dont be tempted to buy a plane like the one you posted first since it will more than likely result in multiple crashes and frustration.
