Looking through the MT manual, it seems that for multi-point, I have to use a trim switch?
EDIT: Basically the same question for the 4PLS. Can DT3 be set to multipoint?
You can set the 3rd and 4th channels to pretty much any of the trim buttons, the lever, or the dial. The lever and dial are good for anything that needs proportional control (ex. rear steer, variable speed winch), the trims and buttons are better for thing that use 2 or 3 point (up to 5 point) positioning (remote switches, shift servos, non-proportional winch). Trim 4 is a good spot for a winch control since I don't think you will need it for brake endpoint in a scaler. I had my radio set for 3 point 3rd channel use with the lever and I didn't like it, it was jittery at any point other than 100%.

I'm a Futaba fan. I come from 1/5 scale, and Futaba works without any glitches on the big weedwacker engines. I currently own a 3pmx and a 4px from the Futaba line. I've had a 3pmx since 2011 without a single issue. I recently purchased the 4px, and it is amazing! So if you trying to get the best radio out there, I would strongly recommend Futaba.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you right now. I don't want to use my nice Futaba remotes for the crawling rigs because I mainly bought them for my kids. I purchased a couple Ax3 axial remotes for them for the simple fact that all the trim knobs are underneath a cover where they won't mess with them. As for my own personal crawling rig, I'm strongly leaning towards a flysky gt3c.

I just don't like the feel of Spektrum. I have owned the dx3r and have a cheap dx2. They are just not for me. I hate how their receivers don't accept the Futaba female ends without hacking up the ends. That alone drives me nuts.

Ended up going with the MT-4S. Can't wait to play with it.

Battery compartment dimensions? Every lipo i found made for the MT-4 doesn't give it's size. Trying to figure out if my spare 2200 will fit in there.

109mm long x 33mm wide x 18mm thick

Personally.. I like the weight of a 1300mah 2s in it.. Good balance, work for 10hrs or so.. I carry a 1000mah for a backup. It just doesn't feel the same.
Probably going to try a 1500-1600mah for weight/balance..

Which one do you have? Ive came across a few.

Anyone run life batteries?

I almost went a different route yesterday, instead of the MT-4S 40th, i was going to go with the MT-4s and the MX-V for the same price. But, i figured out that the ROSS button on my DX2L acts as a 3rd channel, so there's my winch control for the scx10.

I use a LiFe pack in my radio, this pack specifically:
GForce 5C 1800mAh 2S 6.6V LiFe

I get 12+ hours of runtime from a charge, fits the radio nicely, and its cheap.

What can the RX472 take for voltage? i have my BEC set to 7.4v, which i see is the max per airtronics, but it also says 2s lipo. could i get away with 8v? same question for the 871. Or should i continue bypassing the RX? How about amp draw through the RX? how much is too much?

My Hyperion 1800 2s fits perfectly into the mt-4s, what do I need to do to get it to connect. Am I adding a deans to the airtronics wire? Or am I removing the deans from the lipo and adding the receiver plug? What are my options here?

Check out the LRP 3000 mah 2s pack for the MT4S. I'm running it in mine and it lasts forever and fits perfect. Airtronics receivers can take up to 9.6v also which is great.
