Do any of you guys know if the COB light strips come any thicker? I think I could make use of one in 5.5"L X .70"W.

I knew it. Good thing I haven't tried cutting mine.

Ended up ordering 5.5" and 7" from the eBay seller in California. They are awesome (except housing), Im thinking about using them everywhere (1:1 rock lights, under the hood or trunk, work bench ect.).

Just about an 1/8" shorter on each side than the stock Axial JK roll cage. Tough to tell from the angle of the pic but it basically fits this width perfectly even after I print a housing.

Little wide for a TF2 Hilux. Might work on a roll bar behind the cab.

I think I'm going to order another set so I can feel really confident hacking them up to see if they still work.
What's the length of them without the housing? Will you, please, measure them?

His 2nd picture shows it out of the housing next to one in the housing. They have 5.5" or 7".

Housing adds maybe 4mm total to the width if that. I can measure them later if you really want a number.

The link you quoted says 173mm which is almost 7". Your light bar looks smaller than that. Did you get the 140mm version?

The cheap cob leds that you can order off ebay can absolutely be cut down...i ordered 7in strips that were to big for my setup and cut nearly 2 inches off of it and it still works perfect. I can provide pics if there are any nonbelievers.

Thanks for the pictures. But, I was hoping for a close up of the actual cut.

What housing did you use in the cut down version?

I took the led out of the black "housing" and used a pair of side cutters to cut the led down. Just made sure i cut inbetween the square led sections. Then i cut and bent the black housing around the remaining section of the led. Really simple and i think you might be looking to deep into it. Took me all of 2 min to cut it down

Billet will be very nice and very strong, but I would also assume it's going to be a lot more expensive than the Black Beauty V2.

I just received 4- 5.5" strips in the mail for a whopping $8 shipped. I'll gladly cut one up for testing as well.

So it looks like they're both right and I don't have time to figure out why....

Cut one of the 5.5" bars in half with a dremel. The half that had the original wiring soldered to it no longer works. For kicks I cut the original wire lead in half and soldered that to the other half of the LED power leads and that half still works which is what's pictured above. I tried cutting a few sections off the half that isn't working and I can't get it to work again at all. I also realized I could cut these with kitchen scissors and a Dremel is way overkill. I have no clue why I'm getting this result. I only had a few minutes and now I have to run to a meeting. I might have time to play with it more later. Discuss....
