CHEAP replacement led strips for vp rigid housings?

i got a couple of the vp rigid lightbars where the led strips have seen better days. dunno if i got some kinda chemical on them or what but the protective coverings have rotted/deteriorated and the lights are gitching out a bit, and im looking for a cheap ebay/amazon/autozone replacement that is close to the same brightness.

instead of buying the wrong strip and learning the hard way, any direction on what to look for, or a link... would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you'll find a cheap strip that will be as bright, but I'd love for somebody to prove me wrong here. I'd be interested in bright strips as well.

I have some underneath a plane and they work great for night flying, they'll run directly off 3S and you can cut them into different sized strips depending on how large you need them.

There are interesting. In my experience, the LEDs on the board or chip seem to be the brightest.

Look up DIY light bars and see what people are using and there brightness. Its hard to say what will be bright from ebay or amazon. But definitely look into the strips with chip like jato said. Or if you want something really bright but will probably have to do some modifying to the housing, look up cob leds. There a solid led, and a few vendors on here use them and are ridiculously bright.

Please post up hat you decide on, I've got a 3" VP housing that I'd like to turn into a reverse light/brake light, even if I have to use multiple strips in the same housing.

Those COB strips on eBay are still in a small housing. The actual strip appears the be quite pliable with the LEDs down the middle. Depending on how they're glued in to those housings it might be worth a $6 gamble. Get them out and see if they can be trimmed a bit?

8mm wide, but says you can cut every 3 leds (2"). Just not sure how bright they are and not exactly cheap BUT 16.4ft is a lot for $28.49 shipped. You could sell the rest on here, say 3ft lengths or whatever people want. Make your money back. Depending how bright they are, I might pick some up from you. I wonder if you could sweet talk harley and find out where vp gets theres. I definitely would like to know more about MORE leds. Sucks he disappeared.

Exactly what I was thinking, put the cob into his vp housings. But not sure if those can be cut.

yeah i dunno if those cob's can be trimmed or not. it did run through my mind that the strips that have the board outside of the led area could maybe be dremeled down. theres alot of 10mm wide ones...

i have boxes and boxes and boxes full of stuff ive bought over the years trying things out... this one time i'd kinda like to be one and done. im hoping somebody knows more of what kind is close to what vp uses so theres's no guesswork. i doubt its a proprietary design produced only for their housings... but i suppose i'll also shoot vp a message and see if they will sell a strip without a housing and for how much.

more was a vendor here who sold hopped up lights for the rigid housings. i dont know the history but the threads are all shut down. they were leds mounted on a rigid board and not flexible, they fit the vp housings very nicely but they were very pricey...

the 5" is vp, the 1" is a more.

something happened to the protective silicone on my 5", its all deteriorating and crumbling and the lights are glitching out. i dunno if i bashed it on a rock or sprayed something on it.

I'd like to get a couple round Cree lights instead of strips... might have to poke around on fleabay for something that will fit in a tiny round housing.

All the LED strips I've bought (5050 and 5630) have about 2 LED's per inch and all are as bright as the $60 Proline 5" bar I got as a gift. One has fins and the other is lightly ribbed. They're not as fancy as the $$$ light bars, but work just as well. Some come "raw", some come with IP65 silicone coating on them for waterproofing.

The down side is they require 12 volts, but I also found a good 12v voltage booster for cheap. I also found a dimmer with a few blinking modes. I rarely run them full-bright otherwise the people around me start complaining.
