I realize you have put the pressure on me for a better blast shield. I have a Axial Spur cover coming donated by Drail . Once it is installed I will revist the idea. I feel more pressure is back on you since yours is running or was . Because and I am sure the rest of us are dying to see a video of yours running. |

Ok, so my home PC is down so I can't posts pics up for a couple days, I have some updates. I have only very limited run time but a few things are becoming very clear. 3s......this system comes to life, but the front axles are being killed, Mainly due to the fact of my laziness, I had/have beef tubes sitting on my work bench but decided not to install until I received my new gears, Took it out and snapped the axle housing at the C, bent the axle, wiped out the inner bearing in the knuckle and bent to shit the drag link. Only good news is I received my over drive gears this AM. Axial finally drilled a trough hole in pinion shafts on the heavy duty gears, no more slipping drive shafts.........wait is that a good thing. Merry Christmas every one. |

3Racing CVD This was killed on just a 2s. So I went back to stock dog bones, and got a couple 3s batteries from a friend. All this because of my laziness, like I said before I made beef tubes for this and had them sitting on work bench waiting for some gears and lockers before installing. they should last ok. i had a couple of axles break before i made my own toobs. its also just as easy to stay with stock dogbones. cheap and easy to replace

I bent this axle and killed the bearing, I'm wondering if the bearing failed first causing the rest to fail And yes stock dog bones from here on out CVD's can't handle this kind of power. Sorry for the fuzzy pic.

i bent an axle like that and straightened it. still runs ok. the bearings are pretty small and any water gets in they dont seem too last long from memory (could be wrong then ) 51mm front and 70mm rear. you will need to drill and tap the holes for the screws to hold the front hubs and rear lockouts. Man those are some serious carnage shots. Glad to see your rig on the mend. I have never seen the RCP lockers before your post. How are they when it comes to slop ? I read they have minimal according to their site. I was planning on using Highlanders when I get the funds. Very nice on the beefed up tubes especially the rear units. Great extra length, do the stock axle lockouts fit over them ? Looking forward to your video, wish it had this carnage on it. Must have been a sight to see ! |

The RCP lockers are very nice, I've been running them in my crawler for well over a year. They are heavy which for crawling is an added bonus. As for slop, very little ,the axles on one I had too really press to get them in, on the other one I had to tap slightly with a small hammer (ebay score $14.00 for the pair shipped) The only slop is in the gear mesh which you have to have. One thing is becoming very clear you have to have some give/movement some were or else you have major failures I.E. axles and or housing...bearings...The power hits so hard on this thing you can't notice slop. The front axle with new gears, lockers, and tubes added just about 4oz, the rear just over 5oz. Ran 4 packs through it on my lawn just shaking it down and trying to learn how to drive it, and the extra weight has made it much for stable/predictable and much easier to drive, It actually stays on the tires now. Oh, yes the aluminum lock out fit over the long tubes. Last edited by Hacksaw707; 12-26-2011 at 10:29 AM.

One other note, I'm starting to tune this chassis, much better with stiffer rear springs, launches straighter |

Here's a short teaser video. I was running for a while up and down the beach before my wife took this. It's a little shaky, she took it on her regular camera, (not video) At the end I had another bearing failure that caused another bent and broken axle hacksaw video :: DSC_3184.mp4 video by Hacksaw707 - Photobucket http://s1180.photobucket.com/albums/...t=DSC_3183.mp4 Last edited by Hacksaw707; 12-26-2011 at 07:48 PM. |
