Hey John, I just bought a br-xl fom u and love it. I am wanting to upgrade my motor to one of your pro handwounds. Just wondering when they will be back in stock. I was looking at either a 35 turn or 45 turn. What would you recommend for an ax-10 with 3s lipo, stock gearing and your br-xl esc. Thanks in advance.

I have both here, I will be sure the site shows inventory.

Either would be a good choice. If you favor runtime, get the 45t. If you favor power and speed, get the 35.

Single motor? Dual motor? How much power and speed you need? When geared slow enough it would be no problem, but if you plan to do 10mph mud bogs I think you would need to rebuild them every 30 minutes.

LOL, single motor, i would say slow to medium speed, i'm not going to do race the darn thing lol. i just want more torque then speed really. what tooth pinion would you reccomend? the rest of the drivetrain is axial parts( axles, trans)

edit, not sure if it would matter but ill be running a 3s lipo

You would be safe with a 45t to 35t motor if you aren't wanting too much speed. Maybe 40t as a good compromise. Start with a 14t pinion.

Just updated the specs and site a bit. We can build these with laydown brushes at your request, just select the option on the motor page. Super easy and streamlined, although I do not recommend that option for the average person.

I have been trying to learn more about motors but I still have a couple of questions.

For my TTC rig I am looking for good low speed torque and control with massive wheel speed. I am going to run an Axial trany and gear it LOW. I am thinking of using 4s to 6s for the speed. What motor would handle the higher voltage better? And is lay down or stand up brushes better for this? It will be seeing water and mud.

If need be, I can just run 3s. Just need some in put on motor selection. I would like it last.

Thanks

Those are generally made to order, order able as "custom" on the site. It would take one to two weeks to work it in for winding and balance.

If you are looking for brushed, I would say between a 20t to 27t for 4s use. A 35t could be pushed to 6s if you need more torque. I tend to stick with standup brushes for efficiency, wear, and amp density reasons. All in all they are superior to the laydown in every way except for peak power generated.

Be wary that the motor will wear fast. You will need to rebuild it every 20 to 30 minutes of runtime, and possibly more so when you get into water and mud. Putting an outerwear type filter on it would be a good idea.

Alternatively you could use a big brushless motor. I have some customers using the Tekin T8 motors. They aren't cheap, but they are a big step above a 540 in power (and weight).

Does the rebuild interval also apply to my 55t on 6s? And by rebuild, do you mean new brushes and checking the commutater?

Depending on how you drive, a 55t on 6s will wear pretty fast too. 30 minutes would be a good interval for checks. New brushes and a comm cut would be standard for the rebuild, although you may not need new brushes so often being that it is a less amp hungry motor.

They come ready to go and broken in.

I have some 35t fat packs here, and one 4mm web arm I could build up. If you want to select "custom" and put in your order for a 35t I can build it up for you.

Both TorqueMaster design? The 20t will crawl better. The 16t will probably just smoke unless you have some hellatious geardown to keep it from spinning slow under load.
