Really like the new chassis, that is the next step for mine to go body-less |

I like what your doing with those taller rovers. Has anyone used taller tires with good comp results?

Curious about this too. I've heard of taller rovers, but never see people run them. Higher COG overshadow the benefits of the taller tire perhaps? Good looking build going here. I've been toying with the idea of putting some SCX shocks on my mini to get away from the pesky 2mm hardware also. I've already purchased the shocks. Now I just need to get motivated build them!

Regarding the taller Rovers I will have to let someone else answer that I am afraid. Atleast the roll over recovery should get better with taller tires and if you keep the same ground clearance under the skid as with normal sized Rovers. Speeking of shocks The shock is 65 mm eye to eye and it got about 15 mm of travel. I also made some minor modifications to the chassis drawing to get more tuning options. I think this will be the final version.

Awesome job on the shocks. Did you cut down the factory shafts, or did you find shorter shafts to swap in? Any other info would be great since I'm planning to do the same thing soon. Thanks |

Nice job on the shocks sir! I see that the extra mounting options as a sweet addition to the sick little chassis you have goin on! On to the taller rovers.. I ran mine for a few comps and a good amount of practice. I actually built and setup my mini juice around the tires. If you set ur rig up with stock size and it works Great but then switch to the taller tires, it seems to throw it off a little.. like anything else, it has its pro's an cons.. For cog, I don't think the belly of my rig was any higher then the bottom of my axles, might not of been any higher then the bottom of my pumpkin. Yet still had more overall clearance. Kevin, their are atleast 3 sets of the rovers in the club. Jslick, David has my other set and mine. You'll most likely get to see em this coming season. |

Yep, I'm planning on having them as an option for sure.

I tried to find any suitable replacement shafts but could not find any. Either they were to long/short or had to be modded to use the axial machined piston. So I prolonged the thread on the original shafts with 15 mm then I cut off 15 mm. Shorter shaft but the same amount of thread for the rod end as the original shaft. The shock body I only shortened with 11 mm. As I have understood it you have to externally limit the shock with 4 mm if you want to run bladders in the SCX10 shocks. So when I was cutting stuff anyway I made sure that I cut the shaft 4 mm more than the body so I could skip the external limiter. Thanks Quote:
Thanks for the info about the larger tires. Which clearance under the skid is recommended for the 1.9 crawlers, level with the pumpkin? Quote:
I also found this little ring gear. It seems to mesh ok with the MRC/revo pinion gear in the axles, but as it is 35T compared to the 38T of the original ring gear it will provide some more overdrive in the front axle. I will lathe a spool for it during next week and try it out. If it do work out, then I have also found the same gear, but of aluminum or hardened steel. The one in the picture is some kind of plastic. Last edited by Dravpnir; 01-18-2014 at 07:53 AM.

Awesome info on the shock mod. Thank you. I'm even more excited about your new ring gear project. The diff options for the MRC are pathetic. We need a true spool and underdrive gearing options for sure! This would open many possibilities for running stronger axle shafts and bigger bearings. Keep up the good work! |

Nothing much to show the last couple of days. Only made some needed but rather uninteresting work. Narrowing some wheels, unglued the Ripsaw tires from the wheels, started to tear down the rear axle and some on. All 4 shocks are now made and ready for some action. I followed Hulksta's SCX10 shock guide and got some rather smooth shocks But I have ordered a small dividing head to my mill, so I hope to be able to show you something more interesting when I get it. I will start to lathe some pieces to have bunch of work to do when the dividing head gets here

Got time to work with the lathe today, so I made some pieces that will be a lower link and shock mount combined with a lockout for the rear axle. It also allow the use of larger bearings. Or allow 5x10x4 bearings if my I manage to realize my plan to make a solid rear axle of titanium When the dividing head arrives I will mill out some mounting ears from the large round plate for the links and shocks. The original lockout to the right. Then I also milled out a upper link mount for the rear axle and shaved off the shock and link mounts. Last edited by Dravpnir; 01-21-2014 at 12:11 PM. |

So sick! I'm ready for a pair myself! ;) For me, I would want the round plate left alone, as it sits.. looks like a perfect place to mount some rear axle weights too.:cool: |

If you were to mount weights on the round plate they would not be that far out on the axle. The round plate will be where you fasten the lockout on the axle housing. I plan on making a weight holder that I can mount on the lockout however. Something like dlux rear weight holder. That way you can turn the weights around to which ever angle you want and make sure that the weights are as far out as possible. Last edited by Dravpnir; 01-21-2014 at 02:02 PM.

I made something small today... A small ring gear seems to fit on it... And also a 5 mm diameter titanium rod... All these parts end up in a new and beefier rear axle and spool for the MRC My plan was to use 5x11 bearings on the rod inside the diff house but I think I will make a new spool that uses the same bearings as the stock diff so I can leave the axle housing unmodded. The titanium rod will be lathe down in the ends for M4 threads and of course lightened between the bearings. It will then be glue together with the spool. That's exactly how the HSP Kulak locker is made, except in plastic !

That is simply beautiful. That's how I imagine my axle looking when I daydream at work. I'll give you $10,000 for it.........deal? |
