| Hardbody TJ 6x6 Propane Style
This is a build I started a few months back, set it aside, changed direction and got motivated and changed direction again. Here we go. Started as a New Bright TJ Rubicon. Should end up a 6x6 with 3 axle CMS steering. Cut the back off. Made some Rocker/Belly pans. Made a template, cut some steel, hammered it into shape using a receiver hitch. Bolted up the Dinky GR7 and Split Skid with the Belly Pan. Next was a bumper, never made one before so I think it turned out good. Started on the cab cage. Still more to do. |

As it sits now. I'm going to extend the chassis rails to behind the rear wheels. I picked up all my axles. I'm going to run CVD's with Gunnar pins in the front axle and Dog Bones in the rear two axles. Aluminum Chubs, aluminum knuckles and Toobs in all three axles. Front axle has OD gears, center will have stock gears and the rear will be UD gears. I think it will work well. Heyok is working on a custom 6ws controller for me. I will have both rear axles in sync so they turn the same all the time, but I will have independent control of Left-Center-Right on the rear axles. |

Just a small update. I built my center axle with Toobs, a HR locker, dogbone shafts, with Axial aluminum Chubs and Knuckles. Might be able to have a roller by the end of the weekend. Last edited by Propane; 10-30-2012 at 11:09 PM. |

Picked up some Jato and Revo ends to make suspension links and steering links. I use the Jato for the suspension and the Revo for the steering. Use 8/32 threaded rod and 1/4 brakeline as a sleeve. I have a weekend project!!! |

Chassis extension complete. I brazed the two sections together and will add a bolt on cross-brace between the two sections. Tip to tip the chassis is 22". Now I'm just waiting on the chubs to arrive for my last axle and my last set of shocks. Then I can get this beast into roller form. After that the bed fab can start. |

Made some progress today on the rear links. 8/32 threaded rod with Traxxas Jato rod ends. At this point it's all trial and error to get the geometry right. I need to finish the center upper links and all of the front links. After that I can start to figure out the shock mounts. |

| I wish I could have it ready for the Birthday Bash. But I need too many parts and with the holidays and three kids this may take till after the new year. I need the 3 steering servos, a couple BECs and a servo winch just to get it ready for a run. Not to mention the bed and cage, paint and lights. But damn it's going to be bad a$$ when I finish.

It's been pouring rain today and the wife went to a birthday party next door tonight with the kids so I had some major time to get this suspension figured out. I have never changed so many springs, mounting locations, shock oil and link mounts ever! Ever ever! This rig was a task to get each axle to flex and cycle smoothly, sit at the proper height and work properly without causing some crazy chain reaction to the other axle. Here is where it ended up. The rear sits a little high with zero weight back there. Front flex Center lifted Rear lifted Rear articulation Center articulation Now the details on the setup. I ran a BPC 4 link up front and used the VP Razor mounts. SCX10 aluminum shocks with Proline full length spring and axial short red. 70wt oil The center axle is also a 4 link using a gearhead mount. Axial aluminum shocks using 2 Proline short soft springs with an axial short red in the middle. Running semi-droop with upper mounts to the chassis. The forward angle was needed to get a smooth cycle. 70wt oil The rear axle is a 4 link off of the center axle using a gearhead mount. Axial aluminum shock with a Proline full length spring and 70wt oil. Kicked forward for a butter slick suspension cycle. My brain is fried. Propane is out! |

The time has come to start the fab of a bed, rear cage or a combo of the two. Jebster is building a 6x6 with a cool looking bed. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-s...ers-6x6-2.html I was thinking something along the same lines but I'm not sure. Only requirement is I will need to work in an area for an electronics box to hold the RX and BECs. What do you guys think? Last edited by Propane; 11-19-2012 at 02:34 PM. |
