Default Power Issues

Hey Everyone,

Newbie. I have a question. (Go figure) haha

I have a Wraith Spawn.
Everything is bone stock.

I have Venom 3s 11.1V batteries.

I played with it for about a week. And out of nowhere the power started cutting off. Usually after about five minutes of the crawler being on. I still have steering just no acceleration or reverse. I disconnect the battery and reconnect it works for about minute then no power.

Do I need a new ESC? Or is it something else?

Is the esc set for lipo cutoff? If it is what voltage is it set to cut off at?

Are you charging the battery before use? If so are you balance charging it?

Not sure if the ESC is set up for a cutoff. This all happened out of nowhere. I had run it for a week without any issues. All batteries are fully charged when this happens. Balanced charged.

I'm ready to Craigslist this damn thing. I got a new servo today. Because I blew out the last one. Drove it around at the shop, trying to recreate the problem from earlier an couldn't. Come out with my buddies. Make one pass on our trail, an the damn thing is stuck in forward. No reverse. Ideas?

If your using the stock ae5 esc you need a bec to use a 3s battery. the ae5 has a lipo cutoff you just move the pin to switch from nihm to lipo. Have you followed the calibration process for the esc. Imho

Im running 3s on a AE-5, am I misreading or misunderstanding something?

The AE-5 ESC features include 3S LiPo capability, adjustable drag brake and it's waterproof! Settings can be easily switched “in the field” between LiPo and NiMH battery types with a simple jumper – no more complex procedures!

You can run 3s in the ae5 I do as well but the stock Servo will burn out on 3s it is only good up to 2s. I melted 2 of them one from 3s and the other because I didn't check to make sure the voltage I set the bec to saved.

Maybe you're thinking of the ae2. The ae5 can do 3s without a bec.

the esc speed controller will take and handle 3s no problem! The stock tactic Servo is not rated for 3s, I'm sure there are lots who have not had a problem but most last about 3 to 5 runs and die. Mine melted after a few days. My son's lasted about a month. My wife's lasted 3 months because she rarely uses here rig.

I have had 2 of the ae5 esc to have the internal bec go out. Axial warrantied 1 of them the other I trashed. My esc of choice now is the brxl the b mini or the ae2.

That's strange. That esc should only pass 5v to the servo. Guess there's a manufacturing issue with one or both. :(

I know when I called axial the lady who answered the phone let it slip that they had several issues with it. Idk I've had bad and good luck with them. I only have 2 left one in my son's blizzard he has a Holmes Hobbies 27t craw master and a airtronics high voltage high torque Servo without a bec. I planned to upgrade him to an ae2 soon, and my wife's scx10 she has a hh 30 turn a cc bec and hitec 7954. I'm concerned about the blizzard without the bec and will be pulling the ae5 this weekend.

Mistyped ae5, and what'll you do with it? Sell, keep or toss? Should be fine with an external bec.

Did the throttle trim get moved? Try to recalibrate the tx and see if it works. If not sounds like a bad esc.
