I am curious if the cr01 is competitive with a stock ascender and scx10-2. Before someone says it, i didnt ask this question in the CR01 forum to avoid fan boyism and bias. I love the scale look of the ascender and scx, but wouldnt mind a slightly more competition style crawler on 2.2s without going full comp and making the scx10 and ascender look like radio shack toys. Also i seem to be on a tamiya kick lately, and all of their kits are looking really good to me

Short answer? No. I'm a fanboy, I've got 4. Think I'm petty much the only one in that forum anymore. But I'm also a realist. It's not at all in the same league as an SCX10, Ascender, etc. Turning radius sucks, COG is high, stock tires could be subbed in at the local hockey game as puck replacements. But it is a fun, challenging build in this day or RTRism. It also responds well to mods and tinkering and can be a pretty capable rig with some work. |

I am really a kit oriented guy too. I have never had an exposure to tamiya before because its never been available locally before but it all started with me and my wifey wanting some on road cars. I started researching different models and kits available and long story short i ordered 2 TT02 kits and lots of extras, and the more i read about tamiya kits the more they are growing on me and I really have and itch for them now. My ascender was a bind and drive, but only because i drove 3 plus hours to buy it and they were sold out of kits when i got there. I have a semi retired gmade r1 and scx10 gen one that im thinking of selling for pennies to move on to bigger and better things. In the last month i have bought a scx10-2 kit, ascender bind and drive, two TT02 kits, and LOTS of parts, so in reality i really dont need another rc. but i want one, haha. so what can i say? I am not dead set on the cr01 but i thought the cantilever suspension was pretty unique and cool and i like the bronco body.

Well, it's unique for sure. Most of the time when I bring one to a trail run, no one even knows what it is.

Like almost all Tamiya kits, they're fun to build, but no, they can't compete with modern scalers except in the category of "ultra scale" driving.
