Default Backing for Paint

I'm looking to paint a Axial Powerwagon body with Duratrax Gunmetal grey. On choosing a backing color if I go with white will it make a "lighter" tone of grey?

I think so.

I think this is the consensus and probably depends on your color coat thickness/layers also. More layers = thicker coat and less bleed through so less effect of backing color. (I think)
White = lighter
Black = darker

Amazing how colors work.

Don't forget silver.

Hi
I back all my colors with a few exceptions with silver or gray. The reason is if you have an inconsistent color coverage the silver/gray is very forgiving and you won't get light or dark spots if you had used white or black.

ive used that on a lot of projects.. as long as coverage is complete and even, i dont notice a difference in the shade you get. im sure ill get some disagreement, but ive got it on 6 or 7 cars and trucks right now all with different base paints and i dont know which base is which from the grey, i can guess from the accent color though

Wraith has a black base, but painted on outside of lexan, so it looks dull.

here is an example of the backer color showing the inconsistent fluorescent green paint. Check out behind the windows or around the image on the hood. This is supposed to be a solid green color.
