Default The Delrinater.....another SW2 build, with Clod axles

That's right, I'm building a Clod.

I'm using a standard width SW2 chassis, with 3/8" Delrin lower links. The whole underside, that will be exposed to rocks, is Delrin. I machined one end of the links to accept stock TLT suspension stays. I'll use the stays as lower shock mounts. The underside of the chassis and links will be smooth. I have a shade over 4" of clearence under the whole chassis, links included. It's got an 18" wheelbase, 14" overall width, ground to top of frame measures 7 1/4".

I still need to make some upper link mounts for the axles, as well as the upper links. I plan on running a pair of 65t motors with 11 or 12t pinions, if I can find the motors. I have a Rebel 2, servos are still undecided.

A few progress pics......

your chassis is awesome man. The mix of parts that it will work for is about endless.

The links look nice and beefy, and I think they'll work great. But, there's a little flex to them. I'm going to use aluminum uppers to try and make it a little more rigid.

Thanks.

I beveled the ends on a lathe. The Delrin wants to push away from the tool a little while your cutting, but it worked ok.

Well, I was going to use 1/4" aluminum for the uppers. But, I decided to try the 3/8" Delrin as uppers too. So far it seems like it will be rigid enough. It may even be nice to have some give in the links for the big rollovers, but we'll see. I'm still playing around with different ideas for the axles upper link mounts, I spun these up just to get everything mocked up. I may end up shortening the wheelbase a little too.
