Default high clearance clod

started on my first build and since im waiting on parts i decided to do a little piddlin. i didnt realize how big and bulky these clods were till i got them. this is what i did.

stock axle:

rework:

the pics arent showing it quite as good as in person, but i am well pleased with the results. hopefully all that time i put in it will stay there.

another step up for the 2.2 clods to compete with the others

Very nice shave-job.

More details on what you did, and some clearer pics would be great.

i threw those on here real quick cause my ole lady is trying to get me to clean up the house for our christmas tomorrow, haha.

i've only done 1 so far, so on the next i can take some pics throughout the process. but basicly i got to looking inside there and noticed a lot of wasted space inside the clod housing. so i went and got some JB Quick and a tiny littlle hacksaw and started cutting.
i used som masking tape kindof as a mold and did each flat surface one at a time but each flat is made up of 2 coatings of the jb weld. one on the inside and one on the outside.

i tried pics with the flash and without, with the lights on and without. If anyone has some special picture suggestions please share and i'll try again

When I try to take close ups I use the most detailed setting on my camera 6 mega pixles and I back up about 6 to 7 feet and zoom in. Then I crop the photo down instead of trying to zoom in so close.

used a dremel with a grinding rock to smooth out the inside so the gear wouldnt rub.
when i cut and filed down the bumper mount and bottom screw hole it got real thin and actually cut thought in some places, so i welded up inside and outside of that part also.

i just hope the jb quick will hold up to the rocks. i mean if it just starts scarring it up i can always just smooth some back over it. that will be easy to fix. Hopefully it wont rip the whole mess off the plastic housing.

Looks good. Glad to see somebody else in the Shreveport area. Does it add some weight down low?

Keep us updated on how these hold up.. Sometimes JB Weld doesn't stick well to Plastic. I wonder if those don't hold up if you could try these items to rebuild them.

But the way, those look really good.... I need to try something like this on my 2.2...

i REALLY scratched the surfaces up alot and cleaned with alcohol before applying it. and also on the cut edges of the housing i took the saw and cut little notches into it so the JB would grab into that.

thanks for the compliments, i researched on here trying to find if anyone had done it yet and i used YOUR name in the search cause i figured if anyone , you would have tried it.

that plastic weld, you use the plastic sheets and them pour the chemical on them like a glue?

The tenax-7 is like thin CA, no wait it is worse than thin CA. Use Sparingly! Here is a link to the same product but it comes with a glass tube applicator so it can be applied one drop at a time.

I use Tenax-7 for most of my static models but I have never tried it with any Tamiya parts. (yet)

At least with the tenax you wont bind your fingers together
