Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs Thanx mr. V..... Did this mod to my stock axial wheels. Goat 2s has way too much torque for the stock plastic ones |
Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs Well played around with the drill press yesterday on some 1.9 Axial rim for my scaler, needed a little wider rim to fell out the tire and make the over all look better,it the same time it help with the side hill performance of these tires a well with less roll over a few pics. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341414651 Stock was 3\4 now 1 1\8 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341414663 Some nice dmp faces. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341414670 So you can see a much fuller looken tire. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341414679 Don't forget all you 1.9 comp crawlers this is a great mod for you also. |
Digging the 1.9s. In that first pic you have a clear ring. Was that going to be an inner ring or some other functionality? |

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs Well here we go with some more modding,so i run out of rim to cut up so i desided to make my own interbead lock ring.First you will need a 2 3/4,2 3/8,1 3/4in holesaw and some 1/4in pvc. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612547 Start with the 1 3/4in http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612544 Then move to the 2 3/8in before you start mark the hole saw to a depth of 5mm, this is for the bead grove.p.s take your time. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612540 Now go to your 2 3/4in with this cut you will be going all the way through. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612536 Next take a old bead lock ring and use it as your guide. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612532 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612528 After drilling your first 2 hole put some 3mm bolts to keep it lined up. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612524 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612519 The next step is a little tricky you will need to take off 2mm off the outer edge i use 2 pieces of skap for this, then slowly turn down in a clock whas routation sorry for the bad spelling. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612515 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1341612510 And there you have it .P.S. If you like this style of rim and can't do it your self you can get ahold of Erik of Erik D-lux he would be more then happy to sell you a pair. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tires...ux-wheels.html |
I was wondering when you were gonna run out of rims to cut up. Very nice. Gotta get home from vacation now and get some more wheels made! |

Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs So i ran the open air rims on my 1.9 scaler at a comp sunday and on one of the courses there was a lot of water so the test was on ,they work out really well i think better then just vented rim the water came out quickly and by the end of the courses they were pretty much dry"thumbsup" |
Re: Drill press rim mod's with VP hubs Here is another one for you, looking at all the scrapes laying around i was thinking there has to be something i could do with it all  i have 1/8,1/4 and 3/8 pieces so this is what i came up with WHEEL SPACERS all you need is a 15/32 drill bit and a 1.1/8 hole saw and i cleaned up the work area too. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1342450944 This is just one of many. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1342751763 I used a old vp hub to drill the holes. http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1342753340 http://i609.photobucket.com/albums/t...g?t=1342751802 |
