Draw big box - copy - paste special - move parts around until they all fit - save as .dxf - cut

100 different ways...

Doing it at the g-code level means changes only have to be made once and all the other parts are "automatically updated". Guess it really depends on the complexity of what you are doing and how many times you are going to run program and if you are going to tweak it into perfection. I've used both methods and then some. This is just my idea to help keep CAM program costs to a minimum.

Hmmm. Maybe we are thinking of different applications too. I'm ASSUMING the cutting of (4) wheels from fixture mounted blanks. If you are nesting a bunch of "random" parts to utilize a full sheet then yes I agree with the manual placement of parts at the CAD or CAM level as being the easiest way out.

I'm more concerned about cutting multiples of the same part from a sheet of material. Copy/paste would probably do the job since they aren't terribly complex and easy to organize.

I contacted the seller last night, and he's going to build the PC I need and get it shipped today, along with a return shipping label for the one I have. Crazy that this has been drug out for a month now...

I know that feeling ...... that's what mine did for about a month. Then once I got it all running I got to play with a 4'' shock tower that was coming out the size of a 3mm nut .

..
Don't get hung up on nesting if this is what you do most. Keep your sheet size the same and you'll only need to calculate your toolpaths once and then cut and repeat as many times you like.

I found manual nesting helped me save material when I wanted lay out as many as possible of 5-10 different designs on a 300x600mm sheet of carbon fiber. I estimate a 20% more effective use of material compared to software nesting.

So the replacement for the replacement pc was sitting on my doorstep when I got home today. Hooray!

Fired it up and watched my excitement flitter away in the evening breeze. I'm starting to get the feeling that this just isn't supposed to work out for me...

Boot options are as they should be. Cables checked. Tried a different sata cable too. Unfortunately I don't have a spare hd to toss in and test.

What OS is installed? (none by the looks of the screen) Did they give you a copy of the OS so that you can re-install it? Just a thought.

Supposed to be Win7. No clue what the deal is, don't really care at this point.

And to make my crummy night officially shitty...final cut on the last of special set of wheels and the chuck spits it out and breaks it.

Sometimes is just rains problems. When it's a busted part or tool, it's a learning experience. I hate those days too.

I busted a $750 tool holder a few weeks back and knocked the machine out of alignment. Wanted to post in my shop thread, didn't want to fess up about it. Machining stuff feels so great because there are plenty of letdowns to balance it out, its very mentally demanding work some days.
