What Killa-Cotton said! My problem is, that I'm always switching up tires and rims and I know the scale h/w will eventually let me down and then I 'll be hooped!

Correct. With my Axial trucks, I have always just overdriven the front axle. I haven't tried the TRX4 out yet with the under/over drives, but on the bench the one full front tire rotation is approximately equal to 3/4 rear tire rotation. I believe the difference in gearing is less for the Traxxas gears vs. Axial's. Correct me if I am wrong.

The regular sized 1.9 Hyrax tire (4.73"). I'm not sure if I will stick with these tires for this build though...lol...see what I mean!

Very cool Bil, your rigs are always so well Bilt! (ya, it's the end of the day) I think it is awesome to dedicate this to your father. I am sorry for your loss, but think it is great that you are honoring him through a hobby you are passionate about. |

Insperational build. Thank you for detailed information. May i ask a question, I'm new to the crawling sean what is the reasoning behind an overdrive in the front and underdrive in the rear? It sounds like it would create a dragging situation at the rear. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk |

Exactly. Thats what you want. You want the front to drag the rear so the truck stays grounded while crawling over rocks. If the rear is pushing the front then the truck wants to flip over. |

You're question popped up on my email, because I'm subbed to this Thread. I was all ready to jump in with an answer.... then I saw that two very knowledgeable Members beat me to it !! I will add though... Just like with 1:1 Rock Crawlers, the asymmetrical Gear Ratios... WILL cause rapid Tire wear if driven often on Concrete or Asphalt Tarmac. Especially because in most Crawler applications, a much Softer Tire Compound is often used. Driveline damage is also possible, but honestly, the chances are FAR greater that you'll tear up your Tires.... Like the other Gentlemen said, that setup is great for pulling you over steep Rocks, INSTEAD of pushing you OVER, to the point of flipping you on your Lid!! Just something to keep in mind..... I swear, I'm not trying to steer you away from Crawling!! I just wanted to hopefully help you weigh your options. Remember first and foremost, this is a Hobby! Some people don't mind excessive Tire wear just to have a more capable Crawler/Trail Rig!! You and Sean just go have fun. This isn't a Microeconomics Thesis - it's supposed to be FUN, your way! I got the body painted today. Masked all the windows, removed all the trim and laid down Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear. IMHO, it looks much better and will not show the scratches nearly as much as the gloss black. I was a little worried about using PS paint on the sunset decals and I was going to mask them all up but I decided to live on the edge and go for it with light coats at first...luckily no issues. I'm waiting for a Bowhouse LCG battery tray to arrive and then this Bronco will be ready to hit the rocks. |

When you get it on the rocks let us how the under drive/overdrive works. I'm wondering if it's something I ought to think about. Cheers eh, Todd |

It's really cool how well these wheels work with this particular body. They compliment the graphics perfectly. Not normally a wheel I'd consider using but it's just outstanding on this particular rig. Head-turner for sure. Sincerely enjoying the thread. Great work! |

Sorry to hear about your father, I lost mine 10 yrs ago. He got me started into RC in 1990 when he was a partner owning a satellite / hobby shop I just got my first crawler last year (after building rc's since '90!) and it's definitely my favorite way to rc now! I love this thread and remember your scx10.2 thread fondly where you had amazing tips. Cheers. |
