If you and your family feel you’re planted there, then go crazy. Potential of leaving, I’d make a decorative rock garden or something.

Just my thoughts.

Whatever you wind up doing will be fun!

It’s awesome having a home course.

As long as you build something you can remove it doesn't matter. I built an offroad dirt track with a big banked turn at my old house. When I bought this house I dismantled the track and turned the area back to a backyard.

My TRX4 started out as a K5 blazer, but after my 2.5yr old son routinely crashed it and scraped it, I decided to take that body off and put a different body that I wouldn't care if he scratched.
When switching from the K5 blazer to basically the TRX4 Sport body mount and shock mount setup, I had to get creative with wear I mounted my ESS DUAL speaker system. For a while I used 2-sided tape and put it on top of the battery hold down, but that made a noticeable difference in the center of gravity so I wanted to find an alternate solution.

I had a piece of plastic laying around from another RC project a while back, I cut a strip of this to use to slide into the C channel of the chassis and screwed the ESS DUAL module to that. Looks to work really well. Will see how it holds up.

Additionally, I shaved off the corners of the TRX4 sport bumpers that I was using to get a better approach angle and more access to the front tires. I used a polishing brush on my dremel to "clean up" the edges and it turned out better than I had expected.

And lastly I put a front bumper mount on the back. I hate where the rear bumper mounts with the factory mount, the front bumper mount is at least a little better.
Had to cut up the body a little to fit, but I like how low the body is on the chassis now.

Ha, well I went out to try out my new modifications and while climbing up my rope bridge my ESC went POOF! Lol. What great timing.
So now I need a new ESC. I suspect it was a combination of the 25kG servo + the ESS DUAL + the stock 3 shifting servos may have been too much for it.

Castle BEC has been ordered, hopefully that will help prevent future issues.

What really sucks is I LOVE the traxxas app and use the training mode all the time to let my son drive it, so I think I'm going to have to buy another one of these crappy XL5HV's.

Anybody got one for sale?

Buy a hobbywing 1080 and the Programming Card. Use the card to turn the throttle down to 50% for your son

EBay has those if you don’t get the hobby wing
You could get longer bolts and spacers to raise your sliders up to the body also.

Drop in a mamba x and pick up the Bluetooth link. Then you can program the esc on the fly with your phone. Takes about a minute to drop the power for your son.

I have numerous brushless vehicles, I just feel like for the crawling and trail riding I do I just don't need that much speed. Both of my crawlers are running 15T Crawlmaster 550 Holmes Hobbies motors and that gives me all of the control and crawling torque and speed I need.

I picked up a new XL5HV on ebay for $29.72 shipped. Hopefully with the addition of the castle BEC I can make this one last a little longer.

I’m running a mamba x paired with a HH puller pro 2200kv and a 9t pinion. Low speed crawling and smoothness is perfect. High speed is just under jogging speed witch is great for trail running.

I’m running the same except a 2700 PP and agree about the low speed crawling and smoothness.

Sank my junkyard dog up to the windows today.

It’s a slider off of eBay stuffed with leftover parts, HW1080 and a China 10t 5 slot.
And the sport body I used the wrong type of paint on. Whoops.

Those cat tails in the background are deeper than I thought.

I sold my trx4 today... it was a fun build and I lost my a$$ but I sold it to a buddy so hopefully he can enjoy it. Definitely don’t think it will be my last trx4 but I’ll poke back in here from time to time
Here’s the last action shot I got of her.

Shocks are off, apart and draining.

My “plan” is to lower the ride height back to how I had the stock shocks.

So we’ll see. Actually we’ll see how much ambition I have to deal with the e-clips.

I have an e-clip removal and installation tool coming. Might wait for that.

Do you have a link for the e-clip Tool?

I took the motor out and used some full synthetic grease to lube the 9T pinion and 45T spur gear. I also removed the axles & did the same. Removed portal housings and did them too. It is so much quieter than it was, even though it is new-ish & only been run a dozen times on the lawn & dry garden. There was evidence of some kind of lube but barely any.

Do people lube the transmission on these too ?
