Nice. Man, that is a small battery. I bet your glad you didn't make that Rx box taller, cause the ESC is perfect there. Nice bend on that Kydex.

Me too! Hoping it does well. I really don't want to take it back out. As long as it is as fast as walking speed then it should be good. We'll see!

Yeah, RX box is just the right size. The on/off button just fits between the box and the body.

I've used Kydex for a couple builds now. This stuff is nice to work with and is very durable.

Motor swap in the Phoenix today. Finally found the Fushion SE 1800kv 2-In-1 in stock so I picked one up.

Pulled out the SE 1220kv and installed the 1800kv. This motor swap should give a little more oomph to the tire speed. The SE 1200kv will be going in my GSpeed V1-C1 build that I'm currently working on.

Nice! Mine’s been great, and I’m thinking about picking up another one for my SCX10-2. I love how quiet and smooth it is, and the minimal wiring, lol.

I agree. Nice setup for sure.

Make me want to swap out my motors and ESC's in all of my other rigs!

I printed out the new Harley Designs VS4-10 2JZ engine cover that is designed for the Phoenix. It bolts in using the 4 hole locations in the stock plastic front inner fenders.

And after a little bit of paint and detail.

Yes,I agree. after having a se1800 in my portal phoenix i have switched over 2 other rigs to the se1800 and the pro 2300. I am liking the performance, and the availability to clean up the wiring.

Your attention to detail on alot of these trucks is hard to keep up with, looks good.

Yeah, I like the simplicity of the HW 2-in-1's. Easy install and the crawlability is nice and smooth.

Thanks and thanks for stopping by!

I kept the stock 15T pinion in it with the stock 52T spur gear. Sadly I haven’t had a chance to test it yet, but it should be ok.

I’ve got a local event coming up in a few weeks so the plan is to give it test then.

first off love your build thread with all the info and staged photos are neat. I just got my phoenix portal kit last week and planned on fusion 1800kv for my build. Excited to hear how you like it and if you stick with 15t pinion or change it out.did I see you are from Ohio? I’m in southeast Michigan over by Ann Arbor.

Hey thanks and congrats on getting a Phoenix. These are great rigs and you'll love it!

I have the Fusion Pro 2300kv in other rigs and it has been fantastic. Nice smooth low speed crawl with plenty of top end when needed. I do have other 1800kv's and they have been just as good. The only difference I see between the two is the kv's and a few program options missing in the 1800.

Yeah, I'm here in Ohio. I'm about an hour north of Columbus. About halfway between Columbus and Cleveland. I've seen that there is a group near Toledo that puts on events, but I haven't made it up there yet. Not sure if you are south enough to have attended any of their events.

I am just getting back into crawling after being away for a couple years so I am unaware of the Toledo group but I will have to check it out. I used to live in sylvania/toledo and have went crawling in the area in the past with my brother. i currently am about an hour from Toledo so not too far at all. Mostly just trailing with my 11yr old son hoping to find some cool terrain. Not really into the competetion aspect but who knows where I will go after getting back in.

I follow the 419 Scale Crawlers on FB. They have posted different types of trail runs and get togethers in the past. I'm hoping to get up that way next Spring when the events start back up.

Also, The Great Lakes Gauntlet is a pretty big event at the Walter RC Park in Saranac, MI. I seem to miss it every year, but someday I'll make the trip to attend.

I too mostly just trail when I find the time. I used to got to the Team KNK TTC comps in southern Ohio. Fun, but it is mainly comp courses and a lot of downtime in between runs. Sadly, Team KNK has ended their comps for good or until further notice.

Another great event and my favorite is Beat The Creek G6 style event in Maysville, KY. Highly recommend this event. It draws in people from all over the country and is a complete weekend of awesome trail driving.

Got the Phoenix back out on some rocks. I took it this past Saturday to a local event about 30 minutes from home.

The 1st annual RC River Cliff Trails 2023 Turkey Crawl. A group of veteran RC’ers spent the summer preparing a nice piece of land near the Mt. Gilead State Park. They put in a ton of work to make rock trails and different types of obstacles to drive on. It was cool to see Operation 11 Charlie there with there booth setup in support of our military veterans.

Cool new place to run the tiny trucks! So much open land with a river running through it that it has so much potential to be a great RC playground for years to come! I don't know the total entries, but I'd say a hundred or more from all over came to check this place out. We had great weather for a Ohio November and it made for an all day fun event!

First off, the Hobbywing motor swap to 1800kv paid off! This motor combo did great! The perfect low slow speed bottom end and more than enough top end for a trail truck. The VP front brass knuckle weights add the perfect amount of front weight that this rid needed to keep its nose up while climbing over obstacles.

My Phoenix has been neglected since its last outing. I pulled it in the garage and gave it a good cleaning and look over. Under the body was damn near spotless. With the tight fitting body and inner fenders, not much dirt and debris enters under the body. Mainly spent time on cleaning the dried up mud off of the tires and gave the outside of the body and wipe down.

While I had it on the bench, I went ahead and added the Harley Designs 3D printed roll bar and rear basket. Before I mounted it, I sanded, filed and sprayed flat black paint on the roll bar to take away the cheap plastic look.

The roll bar and basket are a perfect fit and bolt right in. Adding these pieces changes the look and IMO looks so much better. The basket makes a great place to stow my Toyota sand ladders.
