Default Vanquish Differences

There are: Ultra, Pro and Limited versions of the VS4-10 product line. I get Black/Clear and the body types but are there any other differences between Ultra, Pro and Limited?

The descriptions for the three seem to be the same - I must be missing something?

Ultra has portal axles, as well as a VFD trans containing some plastic pieces & sintered gears. The Origin Limited doesn't have a VFD trans. Also, all three (if I remember correctly) have different bodies.

Limited aka the origin: machined d44 axles 3 gear transmission full hard top body and discontinued therefore making them fetch more money than they were new when you can find them.

Pro: machined F9 offset axles vfd transmission with aluminum motor plate and stand offs as well as machined transmission gears half cab body.

Ultra: machined F9 offset portals vfd transmission with plastic motor plate and stand offs as well as sintered gears half cab body.

And now the vs4-10 Phoenix
Plastic F10 portals with brass inserts vfd twin transmission with plastic motor plate and stand offs, sintered gears but selectable overdrive and dig from the factory. And the Phoenix body of course.

So Ultra has Portal and VFD, Pro has VFD but no Portal, and Limited has neither. Anything else other than body type?

(Fricker08 - I wrote the above before seeing your response).

Thanks!

No problem man, I should mention and excellent quality.. not a fan boy but I’m a firm believer in you get what you pay for and you won’t be disappointed.
I should also mention, the ultra portals aren’t the best performance portals out there. The hopefully the F10’s will come in machined housings sooner or later because they’re a much better axle.
If you want machined housing portals, the Capra axles and the 10.3 axles are spendy to build but much better in the performance department

As Fricker mentions above, the Origin has been discontinued for a while now... there is a video here if you want to know what you're missing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROdysGpHNG8

The Pro, Ultra and Phoenix all share the latest VS4-10 chassis (also available separately) which has updated/revised moulded cross braces, while the Original [Origin] chassis had less elaborate cross members for the servo and an Axial style centre skid for the motor mount, but did have machined aluminium front and rear bumpers and sliders.

Unless you really want their machined axles, I'd go for the Phoenix kit (when it's available again) - it offers excellent performance [and a more versatile transmission] for significantly less that you pay for the kits with aluminium axles.

It's not cheap, but you can always buy the body post mounts and their half-cab Scout style body set separately if you ultimately prefer that body style.

This was an $800 lesson I learned the hard way. Out of the box, and built per the instructions, the ultra portals have poor steering angle (by todays standards of course). One thing to mention, the ultra portals utilize a cvd style front axle shaft, where the Phoenix f10’s have a universal style shaft. Already the Phoenix portals are superior imo just for the amount of steering angle when built as directed.

My least favorite was the Ultra, in fact I sold it. My favorite at this time is my Pro. My Origin is used as my trail truck. I have a couple Phoenix's built, stripped a gear so they are on the shelf waiting for milled transmission sets to be made. And a couple VS410 chassis' built for Class 1 & 2 Comps. At this point if I was going to have only one it would be the Pro. You could also buy the chassis kit and build from there.

So if I want to buy now the Pro looks to be the way to go. Or, if I have to have portals buy the chassis and Capra axles separately? I haven't priced it out but piecemeal is probably an expensive way to get a kit and I'm not sure how important portals are to me. I do like the way they look!
