Finally some upgrades to my Ascender, all brand Vaterra.

My intention is to test every upgrade and evaluate them one by one.

First of this, disc brake

Aluminum axle upgrade

Aluminium Shocks

An important modify that I wanted to do, is to increase the camber angle when the wheels steer

Today's test gave me great satisfaction, I have seen very important improvements in driving on hard steps

Thought the brass knuckle weights were illegal in class 1

X2, brake rotors painted up look great, that extra caster really helps steering and on steep climbs ime. Nicely built truck keeps getting nicer and nicer.

Any body off pics?

EDIT: RC4WD MTZ's are one of my favorite looking scale 1.9 tires, they look amazing!

This is the answer of R2j, a member of the Committee SORRCA.

As for the Vaterra disc brake weight, the are fine. The full on "comp style" weights are what is not allowed, however if there is a reasonable effort put toward detailing something that is to look like a disc or drum without looking like a huge chunk of metal hanging there, it may pass. The key is the balance of how scale it looks and if it look like it would belong there.

Thanks, looks good and I've changed over to the XT-60 plugs that come on Turnigy lipos, they are just a better connector over Deans...way easier to solder, re-use, better contact even after repeated use, nice to grip for un-plugging.

I'm sorry but I did not understand well, you prefer the Deans or XT60?

The winter, the cold and the snow closed the season of scaler,
now is the time of important modify for the season 2016. First step, which affects all mechanical layout,
are the new suspension, leaf springs .

We start from what does not exist, the drawing :

And you get to leaf springs finished :

This is the first prototype, two different designs, a simple leaf spring and a special leaf spring with connections for anti wrap bar

Looks like Delrin. If it is Delrin, I wonder how they flex versus steel.

And how they do in cold weather with sudden shock force.

Delrin Leaf springs have already been tested in various conditions of temperature,
in Italy for many years that are used...

It 's time to do something very serious, even in a Class 1...

The best projects, starting from a blank sheet of paper,
here is what I drew on my:

Stock mechanical configuration

Low Center Gravity mechanical configuration

Comparison of the two configurations

Red Lines = quota limits upper and lower overall dimensions of mechanics
Yellow Line = center distance mechanics with considerable weight

Up to you considerations on improving dynamic

Next move? The white paper had still need to be written

To obtain a mechanical configuration suitable for the Rules SORRCA Class 1,
and maintain a low center of gravity, it was necessary to design a new front transmission and a new
central transfer case, both with very small dimensions :

I installed the leaf springs to check operation and geometries.

Then I chose the new propeller drive shafts, SDI International, but I wanted to keep the original system input axle,
in my opinion the Vaterra original project is very nice, and technically very interesting.
Is the only system that guarantees of very reduced dimensions.
Here's how I made the connection between the propeller shaft Vaterra and the SDI:
