Well I looked at the Bronco and it would have been fine, but I really want this Yota. I took the plunge and chopped about 7mm off each axle tube, shortened the pan hard, tie rod and drag link and it looks pretty good. Process was really easy, pictures tomorrow. Now I just need to track down the trim parts to this shell.

| Re: Ty's Vaterra Ascender Overall O.D. of the coil... I'm trying to get an idea of the physical size of the shock; if it's like the size of the SCX-10 shocks or bigger or smaller overall. |

Updated pics with the narrowed axles, body mounted and ride heigh set...Yep, it's perfect! Before: After: I think the bodies are about 10mm. Last edited by Ty@Tekin; 01-27-2016 at 12:16 PM. |

I think its awesome that you have an idea of what you want and you didn't give up. You took the chance and Made things the way you need them to be. I'm not a toyata fan, I would have gone the easy route with the bronco, but that doesn't matter. This looks good keep it up

Ty, when you cut the axle housing down what did you do to the drive axle, the part that turns the wheel? How did you cut that down and make it work? Everyone always shows the finished product or the housing but not the part that fits into the gears or the spindle.

Jhauf, you don't have to cut the axle shafts at all. it just slides into the diff locker. smart thinking by Vaterra right?

Huh, no kidding on the axle shafts. I was intimidated by that mod. I will keep that in mind for the future, thanks.

I like the look of the shell. I have stolen your idea of putting the esc in the receiver box. All that is done now, just going to fit the Land Rover shell tomorrow, then paint.

Looking great! Why do I have the feeling this chassis will be the new must have for C1 rigs?

I have awhile before I'm going to be able to paint and detail the body, so I cut a bumper from 3/8" C-channel aluminum stock to get a somewhat scale appearance on the front, it came out better than I thought it would. Had to trim the frame rails a bit for it to fit over, now just need to make some L brackets to bolt it on. Last edited by Ty@Tekin; 01-27-2016 at 12:17 PM. |

Thank you, I was tired of it sitting on my desk with frame rail sticking out. haha It's pretty dang close! I could bring the rear axle in another 1/4" to perfect the WB, but I'm ok with it being a little long. The tires don't rub anything but the body when flexing hard. I need to lighten up the oil, it's very stiff and slow to rebound. I have a feeling it'll be too heavy for how light this rig is. | |

Alright, PayPal was working this morning so I ordered a bunch more stuff for the FJ! RC4WD Jammer hooks F/R RC4WD MT/Steelie spare Tamiya grille, mirror and light bucket parts Tamiya FJ decal sheet and masks GT Power LED Kit I'm going to use the Jammer hooks to also mount the front bumper, should look great and work nicely. Looking at options to make a rear bumper, we will see how that goes. Probably be a simple flat piece of aluminum to replace the lexan "bumper" molded into the body. |
