Well i guess it's time to get this up yo date now that the East coast scale challenge is over.

Knowing the comp was coming quickly i decided to take the tires and wheels off my Scout build to see how they fit

It looks good and without the shocks it flexes almost too much

Then i worked on getting the drive train sorted out.

I pick up a set of RC4WD's awesome scale drive shafts a few months ago.

at that time they only had the long ones so i had to cut them down. I've heard that when people cut them down they had to section them and weld them back together to keep the splined section but i cut over an inch off each and had plenty of spline left.

With the chassis sorted it was time to get some scale points. The whole intent of using the 380 size motor was the ability to cover it with a scale motor, and i ain't talking a V8

It's not perfect bit close enough for most to know what it is

next it was time to keep it covered.

I always wanted to make a remote opening hood latch and after som practice on my Scout i had it figured out.

I started with a Venom remote locker kit

Then i made a latch out of brass, a home made cable clamp and a spring from the seats off my class 2 toy

next came a pin and spacer

Then the mount complete with the tab to hold the cable

And assembled

and in the open position

Then to mount it i added a lower support out of heavier aluminum

The latch lines up good

Then for the cable sheath i punched a small hole in the radiator support

Then into the firewall

and through the cowl

Later i'll run it through the dash

Time for bed!

It was good to see your support there. I'm sorry i didn't get a chance to stop and talk. I'll check out the sight and let you know if i need anything. thanks.

It was soon time to paint, but before i did i needed to add one last detail. The 1:1 truck has supports that attach to the body mounts and reinforce the rockers.

Using heavier stock i made some simple mounts

Then attached them to the body

Now it was time to paint

It's even got dents in the roof that the owner didn't bother to get out before painting! LOL!

with the paint done it was time to start attaching panels

Fenders fit

Next it was time to install the body. I made some rubber body mounts from some tubing i found

They worked quite well

Time for the electronics. I wanted them to be completely concealed so i stuck them on the cowl under the dash and ran the wires through the firewall.

Now to temporarily hold the motor in place i fed some wire through the sides

Then tied it in

overall shot so far

Next it was time to install the battery

Then the hood

Latches good

Here it is from the underside. Everything is pretty well hidden. eventually I will make a cover for the main shaft that looks like a transmission but for now this will work.

The last thing i did before the comp was a dash and wheel. some bent metal and tubing and i was all set

It fit nice

It's not accurate to the real truck but it gets the scale points and you can see how the hood latch release fits through nicely.

Oh and one other item i needed was a windshield to make it legal.

The only thing i needed to add was the winch, a seat and some accessories before the comp but i was running out of time and decided to work on it at the camp grounds. More on that and how i did later

Found this thread last night while searching for scale truggies.
Just spend most of last night and this morning reading all 32 page. Awesome build and glad to see that it is approaching completion.
Would like to see what you do for the scale chassis that you spoke about.

that truck, your skills, and attention to detail...all simply amazing.
The motor is so cool, but the hood latch takes the cake, great work man.

It got wrecked, but only in the most accurate ways. What a lovely truck. I was quite pleased to have seen it in person.

Yeah, I missed all that being stuck at the SuperShafty tent all day

But I did get to get out a little and check out the show and shine!

A lot of killer creations, but Metal Mashers had the over the top details!

Ultra realistic trail damage!

Congrats on the C1 finish at the event! I like the color choice, can you leave the body panels intact long enough for me to get a look at the finished rig??
