Only on special occasions. Most of the time if my ESC is still in a case I just solder it with my dean's plug. On this one though the dean's plug is all the way in the back.

I was never happy with the grill area of the Scout and now that my new 3D printer is here I decided that I wanted to fix that. So my very first part off the 3d printer that was designed and produced (not just a test print) was a new grill!

The grill was the first part I printed to make sure I was capable of printing whatever parts I was looking for, and now that I was comfortable with that I decided to shoot a video of the process for anyone who isn't all that familiar with it.

As an exercise in ridiculousness I came up with a simple part that the Scout was missing to print and install...

Nice work with the cup holder!

What layer resolution did you print that at? I dont think I heard in the video. And is that ABS or PLA? Thanks!

That piece was done from PLA with a 0.3mm resolution for speed. I have ABS here but haven't printed any of it yet.

Thanks for the info, so you think you could save on some 'finishing' work if you went with a higher resolution like .1-.2mm? Granted I know the print would take longer and total finishing time was literally 30 seconds. Just curious

I think it would pay off more on parts that were contoured more, I am not positive but I don't think that the layer height would have changed the finish of the very top. Again I could be totally wrong. I think adjusting temperature could help it flow together more and possible smooth the finish a little.

I have printed all of 4 parts now with this thing so I am in the newborn phase.

Well I'm debating on which printer for my 3d printer purchase so I look forward to any parts you make. So far its really promising.

Anyways back to building! =) Digging the metal interior.

Last nights project, try designing and printing a piece that has a more organic shape. The Scout was the intended subject and the dash was the piece I chose to attempt.

This is the top half of the design, it will get a second piece that will glue to the bottom.

I printed it at the same thick layer height, I wasn't even sure the piece was going to fit for sure. I was thinking I would print another version if this one fit. However I think I'm just going to smooth sand this one.

That is pretty killer man. I could geek out and try designing all kinds of stuff, so much so I would be printing out things for around the house. Very very cool.

Nice.
I'm assuming the printer takes .STL files.

Yup, export from SW to STL and import into the slicer.

Cool piece for sure.

Watched Harley design, cuss and print this piece last night on his Google Hangouts channel.
