Any reviews on this transmission?

Looked over the thread top to bottom, didn't see the specs on the pinion gear so I can get a replacement?

The motor pinion gear is a 14T 48p gear.

I have this trans installed in a custom build. I finally got it out for a test run. the truck is very loud. The pinion spur mesh loud. How do I set the mesh on this when I can't see it once the motor is installed? There is some play in the bearing retainer on the motor plate so it does not hold the spur gear tight/still. it will rock back and forth making it an educated guess on mesh. Is there a procedure to get the mesh correct? Thanks for any help.

The gear mesh is correct as it is only designed to use one size pinion. As long as your motor correctly installed on the mount it should be fine.

It's all steel gears so you need to use grease on the pinion gear also.

The motor mounting holes are adjustable just like any other motor plate. How do I adjust it when I can't see the mesh or how do I know the mesh is correct? the grease will help. I greased everything else except the pinion.

The motor mount is not adjustable for mesh actually. The slots are there as some motors have different mount screw spacing and so you can rotate the motor to put the wires where you want them. Just center the motor in the mount. Also you can pull out the first gear that the pinion meshes to and insall in in the motor mount to see the mesh.

I found the Robinson Racing 1414 fits well and is hardened, so some other hopefully more accessible drivetrain part fails first if any are going to.

You can email support@ssd-rc.com if you need gears.

To be honest you shouldn't need them. They are hardened steel gears so unless you are doing something very wrong you shouldn't have any issue with them.

FYI:
You can even use some of the RC4WD R4 gears as the main case will fit them (I designed both transmissions).

^^^ This is how I set up the pinion mesh my SSD transmissions. I run this trans in my TF2, and just installed one in my son’s scx10 ii. I’ve beat on the SSD Trans in TF2 with zero issues. Once installed properly you really shouldn’t have any problems, nor should it be “really loud”.

I watched the GCM video and then applied it to mine. It's good now. I had it too tight. I had to adjust the motor a few times and then spin the trans until it felt smooth.

Just curious what kv or t motors you guys are running? I want to pick up one of these transmissions for my next build and as i sit here figuring out gear ratios and final drives, it appears i will need a much lower turn(or higher kv) motor to mach the current wheel speed i have now. It also doesn't help that i will have 10.2 axles involved( original 10 axles are 2.92 where as the 10.2 axles are a 3.75 reduction) My scx10 has a 1210kv 45t motor and my math tells me i will need atleast a 2250kv motor to acheive the same wheels speed i have now. Hope this isn't confusing

I have the set up ur talking about. I'm running a 55 turn on 3s. Great for crawling. Top speed is slightly faster than a normal walking speed.

I’m running a Tekin ROC brushless on 3s in a TF2 with yota 2 axles.

Just got it stuffed in a V8 last night.

Love this trans.
