You could try a chrome paint for the fuel cell. I just used it on a rear cover. We all know chrome paint doesn't look like chrome. It's rustoleum chrome metallic finish. It's a close match to the aluminum finish. I didn't want it too glossy, so I sprayed while moving the can kinda fast and didn't let it get too wet. Last edited by dunerinaz; 03-25-2012 at 06:49 PM. |

I have a bunch of other projects going with this build right now and I'm looking foreward to getting the body redone and everything remounted. Atually there is paint that does look like it's real metallic counter part. I've used it on my old Berg bodies. Problem is you get the best results spraying it on lexan and viewing it from the inside. Might try it and top cote it with acrylic ?? All of my major components are done. Everything else from here is just cosmetic. Even got a little drive time in. Finally tried 3s LOL. I cannot thank MG200 he really worked his magic and got the front and rear stingers that I've had in my head turned into some great stingers. I cannot say how happy I am with his work!! I'm working to clean up a couple vids I shot around the house! Stay tuned LOL. |

Love how the boat sides disappear when painted black. In my opinion its the only way to run them.

Does the velcro hold the hood and windshield good enough?

This build is pretty much finished at this point. I'll probably ad some static junk in the event I ever wanna take this thing to a comp. I hate having coolers and what not glued to my rigs just a personal thing I like a clean uncluttered look. I took a second look at the fuel cell I made and decided I hated it. I made another one that I think is a little more worthy of this build. I finally got my self a driver. Wish I could paint a little better. I also added added a rear deck. I have plans to make the esc switch disappear. I'm getting this thing off the work bench for a little while I'm looking forward to a new project. The parts for that started coming in today. |

How do you keep your windshield so close to the cage? Mine seems to want to lift away from it.

I have since added pins. Between the hook and loop, and the pins it stays in place even when it rolls.

I thought I'd let you know Poison Spyder is now making or about to make an Axial Wraith skin that is pretty much the same as their "Venom 1" race car. --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?p24wdt |

Also, how did you get the Wraith headlights to line up with the Rubi body headlights? It adds another level of detail to have working headlights... I really like that touch. I would love to incorporate these two tips in a tutorial for my body panel kits if you wouldn't mind. I would be happy to add your username to the credit for those tips.

As you know all too well you can use hood pins to hold the hood on but I just wanted to use two pins up to the front of the hood a bit more like a 1:1. The problem when you do that it tends to let the windshield bounce around and when you roll it flips out from the chassis. I made a U shaped piece of lexan that allowed me to use velcro to help the body pins keep the hood/windshield in place even when you roll it over. I really love the lines of the RUBI body, and I didn't want to clutter up the front with any more light than necessary. I have been known to go out for a nice evening run and the lights are a MUST. I noticed that the smaller axial lights (the ones the wraith kit uses as headlights) would fill the headlight area almost perfectly. I made some small plates from delrine and set them up to be able to mount the lights and I used some spacers to drop the plates down to be able to line the lights up in the headlight holes in the RUBI grill. In the following pics it shows basically what I have done. The only difference now is that I used some Traxxas 3727A battery hold down that screw into the chassis mount and holds the front fenders in place. In turn I had to run a bolt through the bottom of my headlight mounts, the spacers and the bottom of the same chassis mount. I cut the threads on the Traxxas 3727A battery hold down shorter to have enough room to do this. You just have to be careful to leave enough thread to hold the mounts firmly .
