Just read an article today where a lady beat her kids (ages 3 and 6 iirc) black and blue with a wire coat hanger and got off because she cited Proverbs 13:24 (whoever spares the rod hates their children) as her defense. You can bet your sweet bippy that if she were Muslim and taking the Quran literally, she'd be in jail and her kids would be in foster care...
That is shitty, but I don't see it becoming the norm. The same happened in Europe with one of those refugee rapists...got off because he didn't know better. Same difference.

Not the same. One is a lifelong US citizen, the other is someone from a different country with a different culture. Still not acceptable or excusable behavior, but a person can understand the ignorance/confusion of the law of the land they are currently in.

The reason we live in a secular society is because it makes these situations non-issues. Everybody has to live by the same basic laws that cannot be interpreted in a thousand different ways. Nobody can say "Oh, I don't take that part of the Constitution literally." and use it as a defense for their uncivilized behavior.

There are those in the Religious Right that are banking on Trump being elected and then impeached because of his pending lawsuits or any number of other political missteps he's sure to take, leaving Pence in charge to try to implement his ideology. Will it work? Who knows.

Duuuuuuuude your tinfoil is on far too tight. The religious right has no more power than any other group of fundamentalist nut jobs. The 9 or so idiotards that would push for such stupidity don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

The push to kick muslims out has fawk all to do with whatever they believe outside of their belief that infidels should die at their hands. It's a knee jerks reaction that makes headlines that would never in a brazilian years pass and if, and that's a ginormous IF it did pass it'd be so tied up in court it'd never be ratified.

That's an extreme case and you have to question stories like that depending on the source. But if you look hard enough, you will find a case where somebody cites Islam for the reason why their crime isn't punishable.

That's tinfoil hat stuff. And Clinton is just as likely to get impeached because of her email scandal. I'll take pending personal lawsuits over a career politician and career criminal that wants to make our government worse.

You'd think so, but no. The RR, though they've lost some lately, still has quite a bit of pull. They are deeply intertwined in conservative politics, and are betting on Trump for no other reason than he's promised to help them regain the power they have lost. The good news is that they are still largely ran by the old crusty preachers you see on tv, and most of the younger generation see them for the corrupt power hungry whackadoodles that they are.

Yeah, I agree with that. Kicking Muslims out won't happen. Can't happen. It's just a selling point for Trump. People are buying it though...

There are a dozen more where this came from. All reputable local news sources.

You guys keep saying that, but it's not. They've been around a long time. The Religious Right and the Moral Majority were almost solely responsible for Reagan killing it at the voting booths. When they mobilize they are a monstrous political influence.

Highly possible.

The thing is, I expect a career politician to be at least a little dirty. It's a nasty business and you can't be in it for long without getting some on your pantsuit. She's especially shady though. Gobs of accusations, very little has stuck. And Trump hasn't even touched politics until recently, so I can only imagine what levels of depravity he'll descend further in to...

Its still someone using their religion as an excuse to committ bad behavior.

We all know that utopia is & never will be. Everybody doesn't live by the same laws. Exhibit A: Justin Timberlake. Took a selfie at the voting booth. No charges. Had Joe Blow done so...see ya in 30 days outside world.

Joe Blow led an armed occupation of a federal building, led a "peaceful" protest where one of the occupiers ended up dead, and then walked away without jail time. Figure that one out. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. If those guys were anything other than white christians they would've been shot in the first hour of the standoff.

Damn, you've been listening to Obama and watching the news too much because that's bullshit. They succeeded and got the racist agenda in your head.

Oh, you mean those guys who were charged & recently acquitted? Yeah, totally different from committing a crime & having no charges brought upon you.

Unions where work is of a common nature are definately bad.

Unions should be for safety related issues only. If you work in a mine, yeah the union protects you. If you are a teacher, the union only lets you be a terrible teacher and keep your job.

There's a lot of truth to that. My wife is a middle school teacher and I am disgusted by some of her co-workers. They could not care less about the kids. They are only there to ride it out to retirement and with the union there is not a damn thing the administration can do.
