Post up a picture of it, we should be able to tell you what it needs to be legal.

Okay. So would this be legal for 2.2 Tuber?

I'm also wondering, there is nothing in the 1.9 rules about no 6x6 or 8x8 scale Trial trucks. I know you can't think of EVERYThing, but what may the ruling be on something like that?

That's a nice looking truck. If It were up to me, (from what I can see in the picture), I'd let you run. I think with the roof rack and lights, you could do without the roof panel. Ben?

As for the 6X6 or 8X8...would they be street legal in the U.S.? I know Miniwheeler ran an 8X8 last year, and I think it's a 1.9...again Ben would be the last word on that. I'm sure he'll check this tonight or tomorrow and give you a definative answer.

I can tell you that one as I have done the research in the past. 6x6 and 8x8 axled vehicle ARE street legal in all 50 states in the US. All you need is a special inspection and licensing from the DMV and you are set.

I do have a question about the tubers. Would a scale rig based on Walker Evans' indy suspension S10 be allowed to run? Given that it was within all of the other size requirements?

would it compete in a scale 4x4 trail run?

nice answer, post up a link to pics of the real 1:1 on a trail ride and we can make a decision. Sounds like a trophy truck to me that you would see in the baja 1000, not what is gonna be at this event. But prove me wrong.

you are the same guy who wanted to run a tracked rig in 08 right?

edit: is this the truck you are referring to?

The tuber looks like it is legal as long as you ADD A ROOF panel and meet these guidelines:

" TUBERS " If you plan to run a tuber in EITHER class, here is what you need to know. It must have a full interior, 2 front seats SIDE BY SIDE, a dash, a steering wheel, a hood panel, a roof panel and a left and right side panel. If it is a jeep, it needs to resemble a jeep. The minimum size for the tubers is as follows:

Height 5 " , measured from bottom of skid pan to the roof top
Width 5 " , measured from the middle of the door bars, side to side
length 14" , this does NOT include bumpers or stingers, just the chassis

NOTE: this does not apply if you have a truggy or back halfed truck with a conventional frame and cab.

as for the 6x6 or 8x8, they are legal , but make sure you follow these rules:

for 1.9 --- This class is for the typical street legal rigs, that you run off road. aka a daily driver / weekend wheeler, something you would drive to and from the trail.

for 2.2 --- This class is for the typical trail rigs, that you have modified quite a bit for off road. You would most likely " TRAILER " these to the trailhead.

and last but NOT least:
- No 4 wheel steer or rear steer at all! if you have more than 2 axles, the FRONT axles are the ONLY ones that can steer.

no I think this is the one he is talking about and Imo there is no F'ing way you could call that a scaler

If you build a scale model of it why wouldn't it be a scaler?
Did you mean that a scaler of a comp rig shouldn't be allowed?

first line of the 1.9 rules
"- This class is for the typical street legal rigs, that you run off road. aka a daily driver / weekend wheeler, something you would drive to and from the trail."

so if that defines the class then I would stick by what I said no way it fits within those rules... I dont know about you but I dont see any single cab rock buggys that I would call typical or street legal...

maybe by the definition given of 2.2 it could fit withing that class. IMO it is a tuber even if it has full skins on it, so I would think it would need to fit the tuber specs..

the real truck still sucked...

Exclamation

The "Tuber" measurements make for one BIG tuber! My 2.2 scale rig is 4" tall from the skid to top, 10 1/4" long, and 4" wide. With the measurements you guys have there is no way that rig would look scale! Why does it have to have 2 seats to make it scale? I was building a 2.2 "Walker Evans" Campbell Buggy to bring. That buggy in the 1:1 world only has 1 seat as does mine and there is no room for a second seat.....the buggy will be dead on to the 1:1 though. How about this......how much of the "Seat" has to be in the rig? Meaning how much of the seat can be cut away before you say "That's not a seat"? Also why are you keeping the width to 10.5" in the 2.2 but it can be as long as you want? Makes no since? Take JIA's Jeep build, there is no way he could ever get his width down to 10.5" with that chassis! And that rig is SCALE all day long! Ok, don't bitching now......now answer some questions

Good thing it's a 2.2 then.

The real truck wasn't built to be used as a rock racer

And I finally did build that tracked rig I wanted to run in 08.

EDIT: Here's a pic of the real truck:

Curious as to the reasoning on this too. We don't really limit track width at our comps as long as it doesn't look way out of line. Mainly because you have minimum gate distances. You guys run 12" 1.9 gates and 14" 2.2 gates. Someone who runs a 12.5" track width 2.2 will have a good time getting through 14" gates
