you wanna put knobby tires on a independent suspension vehicle and "crawl" with it?

lame.

the wraith and bomber are two different styles of vehicle. obviously it isn't a wraith. shoulda bought a wraith instead?

It's more a me-too Yeti than a sad attempt at a U4 rig.

The Bomber flips a lot, can't sidehill. I put the old wraith transmission in the RR10 to get the motor lower, utilize a lighter gear box. The improvement was noticeable, but now I can't use MIPs or install a larger motor. I am not happy with the fit of the Wraith trans screws either... I'm looking to complete my rock racer set... but if the Yeti is going to be a headache I might not want to invest in it, go a different direction for high-speed, rough terrain; Jang made a "crawler/rock racer" with a Slash—so, why not? Axial turned there rock racer into a SCT... Doesn't seem that big a stretch. I'm into rock bouncing/racing. I doubt any of the purists on this forum would consider my driving "crawling".

I just noticed that the Rock Rey comes with a motor velocity constant of 2800 rpm/volt, rather than the 3800 of the Baja Rey (and the Ten-SCBE).

It also has taller tires, so it really shouldn't be much slower.

I just noticed that the RR has straight front arms and regular plastic turnbuckles. The Baja Rey has bent arms and plastic, triangular (?) upper links. Is that just for scale realism or is there a purpose for this difference?

The Baja Rey arms/knuckles won't clear 2.2 wheels (it fills the 3" I.D. of a SCT wheel), the Rock Rey will.

My u4rc experience is limited to a few youtube videos, but I have read the rules.

What makes the rock rey ill-suited for u4rc?

all the plastic. and the past issues of ring and pinions in the front and rear diff.

and I thinks it sits too low. also, if im not correct.. for "legal" u4 racing I thought it was said before you cant have an open center diff. rock rey does.

I thought the Rock Rey was going to come with a locked center diff? If not, part VTR332000 will do it for about $6, same part will lock the front diff too if you wanted. If the pan is as wide as the Baja Rey (or even as wide as the Twin Hammers) it's still going to get hung up way more often than the Wraith or Bomber when crawling, but it will also walk all over them when the speed picks up. Kind of a Jack of all trades, master of none... much like the Yeti, Twin Hammers, and even the Summit for that matter.

I don't think the ring and pinion are the problem with the Rey's, so long as you keep an eye on the pinion bearings. Once the bearings get sloppy (which doesn't take all that long) the gear mesh will get sloppy and blamo! I'm considering having a 3rd member modded to use a larger 5x13 bearing instead of the 5x10 to see how much longer the bearings will last.

Just to clear up any uncertainty, the Rock Rey comes with a center diff, just like the Baja Rey, at least according to the manual. As TheLetterJ mentioned, it can be easily locked.

Ride height can be adjusted, and differentials locked, but I was looking at the losi web pages, and I'll have to rephrase my question; does Losi market the rock rey as an attempt at U4RC racing?
