So I was testing things out in the hallway and everything works perfectly. Came back to work bench and shut down the everything. Forgot to wind up winch just a bit and turned it back on. POP goes the ESC in a nice big cloud of white stinky smoke

I guess it's time for a new one already less than 5 minutes of run time...what a ball buster

I have ESCs that I have used for racing for a couple of years now. No issues at all and they are getting used than this Traxxas ESC. Hopefully Traxxas works with me today later this afternoon or I know where there is going to be a TRX4 for sale

There’s a lot of good options out there for an esc, even ones that are cheaper than the stock one (hobbywing 1080). Traxxas has seemed good about replacing these, most people toss the replacement on eBay and snag an upgrade. It’s a great truck, just don’t want a lousy esc to ruin it for ya.

Ah man that sucks. It is unfortunately rhe status quo it seems. Turn the lights on so to speak and smoke signaling begins. Too bad that I would guess the micro BEC is keeping a ESC from being decent. Like others said for 1/2 the cost of a new one you can get a better one or spend a little more $$ and get a full option no worry one like a CAstle X for example.

Thanks for all the suggestions I might be going with one of those options as the Traxxas customer service SUCKS they were not welling to help out at all and said it would be full price. Told the guy you just lost a couple more sales this week and said that is fine because what I don't buy the next person will so I told him have a great day and and he told me the same. Piss poor service they have there just my opinion. This is my first Traxxas in my 30yrs of RC its a shame they don't want to keep customers.

It would figure that my plan B taillights would show up after the ESC blows. I will probably just go with the HW 1080. I really like the look of these lights. I still have the Knights taillights sitting around not sure what I am going to do with them. If anyone has any ideas I am open to them for the Knight taillights.

I took some inspiration from some actual XJ taillights. These might help someone else also.

This setup would be easy to do with some Axial fog light buckets

Ok trying to decide on which way to do the rear makers in the taillights. I am not leaning towards any of them just yet so I was going to get some input from everyone
A----brake on top turn on bottom

B----brake turn combo and back up bottom

C----brake on top backup on bottom

Here are mine on my 1:1. Turn and brake are the red, white is backup. Simple, bright, and cheap!

Just my .02 - A (Red and Orange) and your bumper LED's as your backup. Stock do jack so to speak so might as well light em up where they actually do something.

CMBSCX10 I might be doing a total rewire since the stock ESC poop the bed. I have some things in mind for it. I am thinking it will work out. I am thinking I can now do the rear lights also as before I wasn't planning on going that route. I think I can get the backup lights to work on the body now too

So I decided to go with the Hobbywing 1080 over my burned out Traxxashit. I had my choice at the LHS again as they were well stocked as you can see.

Yes that looks really good. Like you id rather spend more time making it right. Bonus on the Light Bucket is that if you do rear armor the LB serves as a mounting point other than jut the body.

Well the stock servo decided that it was time to go after a short run. A guy near me is trying to start a crawling club and has massive space. Took the TRX4 through one small course and servo won't turn left

That sucks bad. First the ESC and now the Servo. Both were inevitable I guess.

Cool someone is starting up a club. I'm the only RC person in my small town so enjoy it if you can.

Yeah that what I figured just be prepared. Actually the ESC (HW 1080) was well worth it. I turned down the the throttle and punch and it is so easy to drive. I think the guy has about 5 acres of land. He has been the only one working on it so far (which he has done a good job so far) and wants to start a club to get more people interested and to get more help adding features. He has some down small trees that he wants to turn into a log bridge so you wouldn't have to drive through the small creeks if you don't want to. Which I am a fan of not driving through water but that's just me. Just started a Facebook page which has my TRX4 in some pictures without the body just had to try it out but servo had other plans
