The axial kits have guns, gun racks, several different steering wheels, bull horns, ammo boxes, shift levers, etc. Lots of nice little scale items. That of course was the last axial kit, not the builders kit but I would guess they would still include those items?

I've seen the tree with some rifles and other details you mention, but not in any recent kits. My guess is if they're packing the same line-ends the same parts tree comes with the raw builders kit. Anyway, I had 5 of those ammo cans. I had to go hunting through my left-over parts bin. And at least 3 or 4 of those steer horns Geesh. Wife says I should put them on my Blazer. She's originally from Texas. Actually, I was searching for a basic rifle turret and a ammo belt - would be cool for it. I can just hear some dweeb at a crawl meet being 'offended'. Vaterra doesn't give you any of that kind of stuff. Axial comes with really nice light buckets and stuff like that too. But the parts quality and overall strength of everything on the Ascender is much better. Some of the axial stuff is like swiss cheese. I think I got the last set of beeftubes for Ascender front axle. Everybody online was out including the source, but found one left at RCMart - yep, it shipped from China! Says 'made in america' all over it. But the screws for the link mounts aren't long enough to go through the mount and reach the brass internal tube - a pre-threaded hole in the tube. What were they thinking? So I either gotta just leave them short - just screwed into the plastic housing, or source bigger screws and likely have to cut them to the right length. Again, what were they thinking? Extending the wheelbase was brilliant. I think I saw Natedog had done that originally...or he copied someone. For the flatbed/cage model it works out really well. Kinda weird though - WB2 in the front and WB3-4 on the back. I think it's gonna be a really good climber.

Installed some Pro-Line 2 stage foams on The Little Lebowski Urban Achievers K-10.... Tired of watching the tires twist into crullers when it got bound up....

Went out for a short drive trying the Gmade MT1904 tires that came with the spare Ascender I bought a while ago. They worked really well in the leafy and mossy granite stuff and seem better than the Duratrax Deep Woods I normally use. They came fitted to the wheels which was a bonus. |

Over the past half year or so I have bought a couple of custom fab’d chassis’. Both take an SCX skid. It’s time to get them built, hence the rbk. I am not great at putting together build threads, but I will definitely post it up.

Topped up the oil in all my shocks - they were ALL low. 4 rigs! Bought a bunch of parts on the recent sales - 45T motor, hub weights, scaler-fab sliders for 2 rigs. Been updating foams too - the seem to break down and get really mushy - even the CI 2-stage ones, the outer just collapses. I can usually just add a layer of foam. I may try a set of single stage comps ones - the firm ones. |

Finally got RC4WD light pods put on. They have been on back order for almost a year. I’m going to put 2 more on the rear for rock lights and a 122mm lightbar. What’s the best way to power them. Iv seen some use a 9v or a separate lipo or can I just run them off the receiver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For lights you want switched, a $5 2-pole led controller from china works great. Just don't set your bec over 6v. LOL Here's an example on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Channel....c100005.m1851 Lets you turn either or both on with your aux radio channel. Last edited by Browneye; 11-27-2018 at 06:37 PM. |

| Re: What did you do to/with your Ascender today Thank you. My wife is excellent at shopping at HomeGoods. LOL. I literally threw it together and posted pics. But it went over stuff I drive over all the time in the yard with the same ease. I’ll get my hands on it after work. I know I want to lower the front and body down some more. Thanks again. Now getting back to my resurrected K10, I decided to make some upgrades to the chassis as well. BlackFriday/CyberMonday at RPP had some really good deals - all of SSD was 15% off, and 10% off everything else. So upgrade parts came in the mail this week. This is going to end up being my second comp rig, doing as many upgrades as I can justify to make it crawl better. The slow technical rock crawling is quite popular here, and frankly I'm amazed what some of these guys can do with their Class1 rigs. The more compact body of the K10 and all lightened up, and the very short ends, it should perform quite well in Class2 on the rocks. With low and slow as key, I opted for a 45T motor this time, stock pinion - 14T - on 3S with the HW1080. I had good luck with my other YR Hackmoto motor in 35T so opted for another one. For a rebuildable motor at sub-$20 it seems like a no-brainer. So far I haven't been disappointed. The 35T has a LOT of packs through it and all I do is clean the armature and brushes out after a lot of dust with some contact cleaner. It's quiet and smooth, has always run great. Anyway, test running it, crawl is REALLY slow. I'm surprised at the wheelspeed it still has as well. I think it's going to work great. The HW1080 is sure the way to go. I also like the rebuildable motors for the extra large power-lead tabs - they make soldering leads SO much easier. I've nearly melted down sealed-can motors trying to smooth out solder. In the mix was a BeefTubes kit for the rear, to supplant the fronts, and SSD hub weights for all four wheels. This thing definitely put on some serious weight now. I'm hoping it will crawl like a billy goat. @Natedog would be proud of the fitting of the WB4 links to extend the wheelbase too - it's just an eighth inch shy of 12". With all the axle weighting surely it will climb well. Shocks have outboarded, and the Trujillo mod done to assist with TT. The last thing it really needs is a better servo. The DS3218's have been good for me, and at 7.4 volts they're about 50oz/in more than this ADS-15 arrma servo that replaced the original. It was fine at the time, but feels kind of weak now. And it's not very fast by comparison either. I like to wear them out before tossing them. Seems steering servos are disposable unless you spend big-bucks for a heavy-weight. While I like the SSD steelies, I may end up opting for some new wheels and rubber. Will have to be SSD's since I've invested in the heavier hubs. They work really nicely with their wheels - at a WHOLE lot less cost than fancy axle ends and knuckles and such. I've added at least half a pound to the axles now. Low and slow. Can't wait to try it out...maybe this weekend. Last edited by Browneye; 11-30-2018 at 06:26 PM. |
