Oh, and here's another converted K10 rear cage to plywood flatbed for a buddy. Re-purposed the upper cage rails for top supports by reversing the sides, cutting and drilling new mounting holes in the plastic 'tubes'. (They're not really tubes. LOL) It got stained and sealed like my other one. His is for his girlfriend's rig - lots of camping gear and party equipment going on it, with a custom painted body for a Bronco's fan. I'll get a pic when he gets finished - sounds like it's going to be a show piece. I should make and sell these. It uses all of the components of the cage kit except for the aluminum top panels. No other mods. You do have to cut the tops of your shock towers off though, as they stick up above the underside of the cage - and why the stock aluminum panels are cut out like they are. The ridge that goes over the shock spreader bar also gets shaved down so everything fits flush. Stock fasteners work as well. They used to call this 'kit-bashing'. That stained wood flat bed on the K10 body looks great! I’m loving the HW1080 too.

I swapped to a 20T axial motor with 12t pinion and wheelie on demand with a 3s. The TF2 body keeps it from flipping over. Fun mudder truck for now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Quickly made a lower profile lid for the electronic box so my TF2 bed body would lay flat. Stock lid has some height added to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

More parts came in the mail....this time from Scaler-Fab. As mentioned elsewhere I had finally broken my Ascender - first time in a year - broke one of the out-rigger supports for the stock rock sliders. So I went looking for another solution and liked what I found at Scaler-Fab. Since the K10 and F150 RTR's don't have rock-sliders this is a good option for them too. Picked up a set for my resurrected K10 here, as well as my broken Silverado rig. The biggest surprise bonus here is the built in RULR's for the rear upper links. AWESOME!! I likely have these mounted backwards, but the mounting plate is fully symmetrical and the bar fit better this way. Adjusted my links for pinion angle, swapped my battery-tray pivots from left to right so they went the other way, and it all works just killer. The parts are nicely made and finished, very precision and heavy duty. Me likey. Shameless plug for Scaler-Fab. While I was tinkering installed a new DS3218 servo too - the ADM-15 is 15kg so 20kg is a nice upgrade. At 7.4v it sings pretty good. Took this one out for a test drive last weekend and with all the new weight down low it really crawls well. Very happy with how this one came out - I think it's my best crawler yet. |

Ha - yeah, you can reach up under the body and turn the rig on and off. That was my goal. My Axial Blazer didn't come with a power button - you have to unplug the battery. What a giant PITA. I have 3 HW1080's and they're all setup like this. |

Has anybody tried the proline ford raptor body yet? Been thinking of picking one up but it seems a little bulky. LHS has one is stick, it’s the one without the camper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not that one...but Proline released the Colorado ZR2 today - mine will be here Thursday. Get to do a 1:1 replica. Mine will be all black, without the fancy graphics, thank you. |

Yeah I like that one too. Maybe they are doing it to make it look more scale but on both it kinda looks like there is no room for a front bumper at least I can’t find a pic of either with a bumper on it. If that’s the case I wouldn’t get either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

One of the guys at a club GTG last wheekend had scratch-built a cab-over camper for his Toyota. Wished I got a picture of it. Must have been a rc4wd hardbody. Very cool little rig if not a bit top-heavy.

The new body styles are going to be more difficult with bumpers. I just trim all that part of the body off and mate it with an 'offroad' bumper. Like my Silverado. My DD is a black colorado4x4 extended cab. It's a natural. Last edited by Browneye; 12-05-2018 at 07:02 PM. |

More Scaler-Fab...this set of rock-sliders/rocker guards are the 'double-bar' version for Vaterra full wheelbase. Really happy with their product - precision, great fit, and built-in RULRs. The only thing I saw was that if you center the mounting bracket and use the rear-upper-link-relocator the spur/pinion cover no longer fits on. I'm fine with that - tied up some wiring and generally cleaned up all my wires for this rig. And the battery-tray pivot can also go on the bracket - Vaterra bumper bracket spacers fit just right. The only other thing I see is they are using 'rustoleum bumper' paint, which I'm guessing is a rattle-can, and it's very soft. Just resting the hex-driver handle on the rail for mounting screws chipped the paint off. I imagine with some trail time they'll have to be regularly re-painted. IMO they should powder coat them. They take a bit of time to fit on, but may take them back off for PC at some point. Otherwise the protection and fit is very good, and they look great. Certainly way more heavy duty that the stock sliders. |
