Slowly learning why online is killing brick and mortar....

Lightbar instal was easy just tapped into the power side of the esc with a servo connector for disconnect during daytime. Nothing fancy. I will have go follow him at night since my truck might not get lights in time. DOH!
** velcro'd his old nimh pack under the hood and soldered a deans male to connection for a self contained lighting system. no weird body-chassis umbilical!
with the factory barrage lights and the bar, its pretty neat looking. drove it a bit in my backyard in the dark, as my first lighted crawler it sure adds to the experience! Andrew is pretty stoked too ;)
My son was stoked when I put lights on his ascender. It sure adds to the cool factor!

Yeah baby! That front end looks sharp. Nice job.

The F O R D is a great detail. What adhesive did you use for attaching them?

Have a fun weekend. Its gonna be grand!

Thanks brother!
The hood letters actuLly are from the jconcepts decal sheet. I sliced tight squares carefully not going through the backing paper, then pressed blue painters tape over it and lifted it off, lined it up and stuck them on, peeled off the blue tape and presto!!!
Kudos to jconcepts for getting the spacing right on the sheet. Most of thier decals are actually quite good! Just wish this body was a tad bigger.

Still got my fingers crossed proline gives us a full bed to go with thier cab...

Well, i have no idea what the wifi situation will be at the event, so if you dont hear from me all weekend, expect a HUGE photo and video dump monday night!

i was too busy trying to DRIVE!!!!

seriously it was a chore getting up that terrain with my little 2.85" dirt grabbers. everyone (myself included) were amazed how far up i was making it.
somehow the combination of parts just worked together like an orchestra.
and what a beautiful melody...

i will work on getting pics up today. i was so tired last night, by the time kids were asleep and mrs shinchu and i sat down to watch westworld, i was out in about 5 minutes lol

the tally:
1 dead servo horn (stock plastic)
1 dying servo (suspect my endpoints set too far)
1 rear shock lower screw backed out (forgot to Loctite)
1 front blinker lost in a crevice that probably went to the center of the earth (think mordor)
1 weekend i'll never forget!!!

Well now you have more to build! Building is part of the fun. Or it makes you look at it and think how can I make it even better!

Some pictures would be cool about now....... Lol Wish I could have been there.

i need to email from my phone to my work comp.
easier than burning up my data plan by posting on tinypic all day!
gotta tell ya though, i REALLY had my hands full trying to crawl this truck with tiny tires, and i got zero shots of my truck in action (i think humboldtEF snapped a couple?). i was able to get a few shots here and there. gimme a few here... i'll edit this post as i add the pics.

- and yes, i went there fully intending to break stuff lol i'm a 1:1 drifter and you just DONT go to an event without breaking stuff... you gotta SEND IT!!! and yes i enjoy the build as much as the drive. i was born to tinker!
so yeah, i will have a new servo in there soon. then i need to rebuild this rig on a CMAX chassis with a larger 3D printed body and 1.9's. that's phase 2 I've been planning for a while now. just need time/money ;) phase 1 was just to get me from being a spectator.

*i sent the email to myself from my phone, it takes a while if its a large file. its on the way!

**ok here are some pics. that's all i took, really. even less than i thought. seems browneye got some good ones though!

arriving at "SCALE TOWN" with my son

heard a loud crash, went to check it out...

RTI... am i doing this right???

Passed tech inspection!

my son wanted a glamour shot of his rig too...

my son, father in law, and my rig overlooking the camp

the aftermath...

look away if you have a weak stomach...

THE HORROR!!!!!

already talking with Pawel for a set of replacement lenses.

that's it. yeah i am fired as media person guy. i had a choice of photos, or drive. i think its obvious what i did. DROVE THE WHEELS OFF!!!!!!
seriously it was a blast. if you have any way possible of making it next year, DO IT!!!

Can't argue with that logic...you're off the hook!

Looks like it was so much fun...and flashbacks of my beloved Phoenix from the pics. I already told the girl we're GOING next year!!

I have had my share of 70's ford bodies, the old proline 70's f150, Hpi, Parma, And I recently, lol two years ago picked up the 80's Jconcepts body. My first truck was a midnight blue 86 F150 4x4. So I had to.

You have the 79 Proline cab, and I wonder just how far off the 80's bed would look on it. Obviously the tail lights are wrong but the lines, and the tailgate look awfully similar. The rear end shape is different, but unless someone really knew their trucks it might just work.

Hmmm...
I considered something like this. But... I am way too picky and I don't think the dent would line up. You know, where the "belt" runs around the whole truck.
And I could do some masking trickery for the lights but it would still have the mold lines.
For the tailgate, the 79 has 2 "frames" where the 85 has only 1.
Lol see?? I'm picky!!!
And the proline cab has a large wheel arch to allow for ascender rtr to fit those huge tsl swampers. Its the only gripe I have with that cab.

I have a plan... And my birthday and fathers day is within a week of each other, so...
Muahahahahaaaaaa!!!!

*hint: phase2 of this will likely be moved to the 1.9 section...

During my night run at PLBTF I ended up breaking out or losing every lens except for one headlight on my SCX10ii with the Toyota SR5 body (and 3D printed light buckets). I think I'll try gluing the replacements back in with E6000 instead of CA, I'm hoping a little flexibility will help them take a bit more of a hit before popping off.
