Default TH Product Suggestions - Rants Welcome - BMRC

Please use this thread to suggest/request parts for the TH.

I was a little disturbed by this thread. After about page 8 you can see folks' frustration with the lack of aftermarket support for the TH.

Some blame Losi, some flamed MIP (not sure why) and others are just frustrated in general. I'm interested in moving forward so I don't care what happened in the past with Losi. I don't play favorites but I DO call it like I see it. So lets put things into perspective here guys... remember the first Wraiths? Mine ran for 5 minutes before snapping a front axle shaft (stock motor/2s). CVDs were backordered for many months. So we kept replacing stock axles until everything else wore out and then we began snapping plastic chubs and knuckles. I even wore out an aluminum chub in one battery pack due to this poor axle shaft design. I was so pissed-off that I sold that Wraith and didn't buy another one for a year until Axial got their shit together. I'm not even going into detail about the thousands of dollars worth of parts we made for XR10 one month before Axial discontinued it with no prior notice.

Personally I really like the Twin Hammers and I'm not willing to let it die without a fight. Now that I've said my piece... lets move forward.

Gears, shafts and related hard parts are within our capability but BY NO MEANS our specialty so this will be a slow learning process... therefore we are starting with option 2.

option 2:

We have already been working on a bolt-on EXO IFS front conversion kit for the Wraith so it was relatively simple to adapt it to the Vaterra Twin Hammers. This is a quick fix but not an ideal solution. It will obviously require you to completely change your front diff, arms, knuckles, etc to the Axial EXOTERRA which some folks are not going to like.

Because the BMRC adapter plates take care of the conversion you won't need to purchase a complete EXO kit, you simply order parts from a list we will provide and/or mix in any of hundreds of aftermarket parts already available for the EXO. So far into this project we have some confidence that there should be a minimal amount or NO cutting/grinding required for this conversion - no promises at this stage. ETA 3 weeks.

Now onto the hard stuff (pun intended)

This is where we will be starting from scratch. There will need to be mucho testing before we can release any products so please do NOT expect anything quickly. ETA 6 months.

Based on forum posts and talking with customers, here is our list so far:

1) direct swap CVDs
2) gears
3) gears and spool
4) 2 speed tranny gears with ratio options

Just a random idea i had when i was on the pot. What if we could take a summit diff that can be locked or unlocked and use it for the twin hammers? So when you want to go fast have it unlocked and crawling have it locked? Like i said just an idea, I know the summit diffs are huge compared to the twin hammers.
*edit*
keep up the great work BMRC!
Cant wait to see what you are going to make the TH into!

I'm pretty happy with the durability of mine. I just don't trust the outputs and dogbones, so I back off when I am in a bind.

So for me the CVDs!! All day long.

Thanks for sticking with the TH. I like it a lot too. Super fun.

i think that the problem witht he front end lies with the spindle / nuckle itself,, the way it was made to get more ground clearance is the reason everything is in a bind, what about just making some aluminum or derlin front arms a little longer maybe only 3/8 of a inch, give it that scale look of being wider in the front,, also make a new spindle to put the axle thru the center or the spindle not the bottom,, thus allowing the axle to sit straight at ride height and have full function up and donw, plus making it a little wider and ront might make it more possible for mip to make a axle?

I vote for chassis-mounted (not plate-) steering bellcrank. Would prepay for one now.

Also agree that something could be done about front suspension travel, though not sure what. Not really clean as is.

pretty much every option especially the EXO conversion will widen the front considerably

Personally, I too wanna say thanks for at least attempting to help us out.
You have some great upgrades lined up and I'm sure the end result will be worthy.

I really like the idea EXO IFS conversion kit a lot - thanks

also, can you provide more detail about the EXO conversion kit?
Is there a quality CVD made for it and, how much does the track width increase?

Thanks

Thanks for the efforts BMRC! I'm glad a few vendors have stuck with this rig.

I like the idea of the Exo front end conversion but it sounds pricey with all the parts and, Im scared that we would have to run a wraith sized rear axle to get things looking right. That seems to lend itself more to a 2.2 sized rig which looks odd on the hammer.

With that said, I'm in for a set of drop in CVD's.

I think a steering solution that would fit under any of the available shock setups would be nice too. Something that is low profile and isn't attached to the mount would be great to see.

Thanks again for allowing us to give our opinions on new parts for this thing. I love the rig but Losi/Vaterra really dropped the ball on a few things.

How about a better battery tray? Seems like alot of those are getting broken wherethey mount to the cage. A simple plate and a couple tough delrin stand-offs would work.

I'm not into swapping out the whole front end for axial parts. I'd rather see a decent front shock setup within the confines of the cage.

If it can work so well on the revo chassis (10th and 16th scale) why can't it work on the TH?

we are working on a new upright front shock mount that fits under the hood.

That will be killer to see a Wraith with a EXO IFS conversion! That's awesome! How much does your piece(s) kit gonna cost? I assume its the full front sub-frame, just add the parts on your parts list from Axial?

why do an exo conversion when they are soo much larger then the twin hammer why not try to keep it close to the same size? Also say you get the exo conversion out and people buy it and wont they also have to buy a new rear axle to, Like a wraith axle?

If I'm not mistaken each arm is about 3/8" longer than stock, so that's only 3/4" increase in track width.(maybe a bit more because of differences in diff width)
Totally workable IMO, and it will add much needed wheel travel, while also correcting blotched suspension/drive line geometry. It's all in the thread

its quite a bit bigger actually,, ive had both trucks on my table at the same time,, i like where the idea is at with a different front end but i dont like the idea of mixing together a axial and a twin hammers,,

do some research around about the ifs wraiths they are already very popular with the exo front end,, the size of the twin hammers iv very small as we all know compared to a exo or wraith so why put those suspension parts on a already tine rc just to make it look fake?? it looks somewhat scale now, why not fix the problems without hacking stuff together?

not knocking what your trying to do blue monkey but it doesnt make sense they are different scale trucks,
