In the fixture. Two .120" 7075 pins and four turned down 3mm button heads locate and secure each tower. The left side is programmed for front milling and tge right to do the back.

Finished part... I'm going to tweak the design a bit and cut some more.

MA Ford 1/4" 6 flute 90* HSS countersink. Got two for less than half the price of a carbide 4 flute bevel mill. The two extra cutting edges allow for a faster feed as well.

Saw these beauties in the AX section and it looked like you could use a lot of stock TH parts to replicate the design. Still have a bunch to draw in order to work out the numbers but I think it's a workable concept.

Marvelous! Funny thing is I was just thinking that the stock rear shaft articulations could be mixed with the stock cvds when looking at my bits yesterday lol. (had no idea about how to tackle the sliding mechanism though)

Do you think this design would be less prone to wear than the dogbone one?
Cheers

Rob- if you can get the cvds to work, you will OWN the market!

I wouldn't think there would be much wear at all. But who knows. Still need to figure out some way to hold the ball end for machining.

The only place I would see wear occuring would be between the pin and the slot. would greatly depends on tolerances you can get I think.
Thumbs up, I am excited to see the first proto!

The square cutouts actually measure the same width as the existing slot in the output cups. I assume that all of the cvd parts are only surface hardend which is good for machining but bad for the long term wear of a new slot. Always a compromise...

Think they would wear much slowly than the dogbones anyway caus the pin would only slide in the slot which has no open end and is constrained by the threaded bushing that comes over and prevents deformation.
To me it really looks promising!

I like the idea, but not much of an improvement over stock. same slot travel means same wheel travel= no improvement. Still driving with a pin that slides= wear, no improvement. I wish it could be figured out.

^depends on how long the slot is. There could be a ton of improvement if the slot is long enough to allow for more travel. Hey Rob- can we get measurements on the outdrives compared to stock dogbones?

The current slot in the output sees both plunging and oscillating of the dog bone pin. This concept splits those movements across two wear points, the cvd barrel will see the oscillations and the pin will only see the plunging. I finally got my shocks and mocked up the front end again the other night. There is so much axle plunge that I'm starting to think this might be a dead end.

Extension is the only concern for travel. If the outdrive slot is deep enough, then plunge isn't a problem. The stock bones don't bottom out inside the outdrives, so with a MIP-style cvd, there shouldn't be any concern if the pin has enough travel in the slot.
