That's just the problem. I don't think that the stock piece will allow for a long enough slot. We will see, I want to draw up the whole front end to get some numbers and see if there are any easy changes that will help the situation.

Is there any way that you can make a whole new spool that doesn't need a slot?

you could always bring a set to our scale comps and I will brutalize them and see how durable they are I am only running a 6.5 turn 3400kv 550 motor in mine. hope you can make it to mini moab this sunday for the scale run, would be nice to have another twin hammers out there

| Re: rob_b hits the trails It would be a good start for sure, avoiding the need to cut/solder part of an mip shaft for example. but it wouldn't fix the issue that the offset of the hub causes if you try to stuff something bigger than the original shafts in this thing. Replacing the outdrives with shafts having flats at their ends seems pretty easy compared to fixing the issue of the offset hub alignment. Guess that's the reason why no one came with a solution yet.

--------------------------- So I wasn't at all happy with the mock-up of the first shock tower. Moved some numbers around slightly and am going to make some of these out of 1/8" 7075. Then I'll put a few out for testing Waterjet is busy for the next week so I have to man up and cut them 100% on the mill. | |||

Yes, at least until we have a workable design.

| Re: rob_b hits the trails Here we go then It's quick and dirty but I think you'll get the idea. The red lines represent the center lines of the hubs (where the bearings sit) and the blue? (sorry i am color blind ) ones the center line of the a arms. When comparing the left and right pictures, you clearly see that on the TH the center line of the hub is offset towards the bottom and is almost at the same level, if not at than the a arms centerline. they did this to maximize ground clearance, but generates the drawback that the cvd shaft is litterally diving into the end of the arm, which makes it really difficult to fit bigger shafts without modifying the arms and hubs. look at the right and see the difference in shaft diameter... Hope it's clear. Last edited by MrJugger; 02-21-2014 at 10:52 AM. |

| Re: rob_b hits the trails Got it! Thanks Jugger. Rob- Time to mill up some arms with reliefs cut for MIP X-drive sliders. That could be the ticket to making this work. I have a mill here at work, but time is not on my side. |

Yep, exactly. We want through this with the MIP guy a while back and came to the same conclusion. More than a bit of a bummer. Great illustration I'm thinking that's a lot of load on those two plastic ears on the Diff case, esp in a crash Quote:
