Chris...I was just going back through your Samurai build and checking it all out again. VERY NICE...! I had a question for you... I finally got my 1995 Grille started on my Samurai build...and I've got my MRC/Speedway Pal stuff gathered up too. I was wanting to ask you if you had any suggestions on what I should use to hold my grill onto my Lexan body? I've never worked with lexan or styrene before so I'm just guessing as I go along here. Also...my emblem is steel...so I was wondering if you could give me any pointers on attaching the styrene to lexan and my steel emblem and steel mesh...to the styrene??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Aron BTW..here's my grille so far....critique it if you'd like...I'm a newbie who can take constructive criticism pretty well and any pointers from a styrene genius such as yourself would be welcomed. I also plan on cutting out holes for headlight buckets and lenses too. |

Hey Aron, Glad to hear you finally dove in and are making one fully custom ( should turn out SICK..! ) Once completed, I just used industrial grade "hot melt" glue to hold my grill to the lexan body, and so far its worked great..! Also use the hot melt glue to attach the mesh onto the styrene, and then you could use some super glue to attach the emblem once its all been painted.. Now Heres just my .02 cents.., your off to a great start, but you could clean up the inner cut-out lines just a tad..you'll be MUCH happier with the end result if you take care of it now.. Use a small file, or some sandpaper folded a few times..take your time, and it will come out mint..!! |

Thanks alot Chris....I was just now using some of my mini files on those inner cut out lines. I've been going over that with 800, 1000 and finishing up with 1500 grit sandpaper. Thanks for the tips. I just so happen to have a really small...cheapy...craft-type hot glue gun and I'll try that out for mounting my grill. Thanks again for your help....I appreciate it Aron I've since made the grill a little bit more 3 dimensional by adding another piece to the rear of it......... I took these two pics while I was just trial fitting the grill...I also just used some headlight decals to show where my headlight lenses and buckets will be going when I get them......now I'm working on cleaning up my internal cut lines like you were talking about. THANKS ! Last edited by BiG_DaWgZ; 05-23-2009 at 02:08 PM. | |

| Update..!!!
Hey Guys, Its been a while since I've updated the Ole' Samurai thread, so I figured I'd post up some Wheelin' pics from a few weeks ago. These were taken at Skinner Mt. out in western Mass. ( AWESOME spot to wheel scalers..!!) Enjoy the Pics..! It slipped into this "V" notch, nearly taking the mirror clean off the truck . I then drove out of this situation with minimal body damage..! This thing has always wheeled AWESOME the way it is, but NOW Its time for a little "Extreme Makeover".... Stay Tuned..!! |
