thanks guys. I'm just glad I was told about this as I would never have thought of it. Just check out this 4runner build (obviously based on the hilux). this is an early shot, unpainted, and you can see the filler styrene that was sanded flush. no filler at all. |

Great build! Top notch as always. With a little bit of practice you might be pretty good at this some day. Your builds are far better than mine anyways. |

thanks guys. Ive spent the last week or so sanding...lots of sanding and building up the roof line to get close to the accurate arch of the 4dr, which is quite different than the mid roof step of the 2dr. Thats coming along nicely but I still have lots of work to do. I decided to take a break from styrene and play with steel a bit. 4RUNN1 offered to make me a front bumper but I thought before I resort to that I'd try it...now I'm sure I'll have 4RUNN1 make it, lol.. Here's the shape I'm after, short and shallow with a winch perch. I didnt fill in the little triangle at the perch though. and some goodies have poured in. Tamiya USA donated a set of new, unassembled TLT axles. Couple axial transmissions arrived (one for a transfer case), various odds and ends... and last week the UTE chassis finally arrived...such a work of beauty... ...back to sanding... Thanks guys. Just to give you an idea how I've been spending my evenings... The roof line is good but there are lots of gaps and crevices between the styrene sheets I used so I heat some styrene, stretch it to make thin strings and use that to fill all the lines, keeping it proud of the finished surface. I then sand it down flush. Then I usually have to repeat it...feels like its been weeks of that, lol. Yeah, thanks SebringMGB for the tip... roof line looks good...just detailing it now. Lots and lots of using the styrene to fill gaps... Also, Vic at Rclighting.net has graciously donated a full custom lighting setup which will include headlights and side marker lights, side fender lights, tail and working brake lights, working reverse lights and a license plate light... I'm thinking of going with silver/gunmetal, which is an OEM color, black wheels and flat black exo. I think it will look killer... Tonight I roughed out windows on one side. still have lots of shaping and filling to do on it but looks tons better with that huge C pillar removed.. |

Need a break from sanding and filling... started tonight to figure out the suspension...I think its going to work fine with the miniLST shocks like on my other builds. The TLT's were too tall. front is 1.9 brat wagon wheel, with outer ring of wheel painted black. rear is standard 1.9. |

The shocks are temps too. I set it up so that I could swap the towers back in and install the RC4WD 80mm dual rate shocks that are on their way. I tried to set up the TLT's but they were too long. The more I look at it the more I like the basic stance of the body on it. Lots to do still...lots to do. | |

Thanks guys. Got a bit more done. Its a rolling chassis now. Body mocked up but seems to sit too high. will need to install the shock towers for sure. should have good flex (not bad for not weighted at all) overall width seems good. until the spare shock towers and RC4WD shocks come I'll go back to doing bodywork again... btw-the front wheel is a 1.5 mini cooper (newer style) wheel with a reduced trail doc xl on it. look how discreet the link mount turned out! |
