obviously the clear shell doesnt offer much visibility but hows this?

was playing with the cut off flares after this shot, thinking about reattaching them higher up on the body to bring back the cherokeeness (is that even a word??) of the body panels.

as im likely to keep the rear pinched im also not sure what to do with the roof panel section...

my axial "bulkheads" kit arrived today !!

and something sprung to mind (pun intended)

when i center the rear housing i think im going to go ahead and clock the axle tubes 90degrees to make the link mounts into leaf mounts. and since i have a full set of four more, i can use them as shock mounts too !!

talk about killing two birds with one stone!

pretty happy with this discovery (incase you couldnt tell :P )

I would. It'd look more like a cherokee. With the plastic cut off u cant tell what it is. Im a jeep guy, so i would beable to tell, but im not so sure others would.

I don't know. Maybe the molded 'rails' on the cherokee roof will mess up the look if you trim the sides of it. Keeping the stock flares and reattaching them up higher is a great idea. It'll really keep this thing identifiable as an XJ.

Here's how I bobbed the rear of an early bronco for the wraith:

It came out clean because there was only one cut to repair. I used shoo goo to hold the seam, and with it screwed back onto the cage it never came apart.

nice job on the doved rear

my Treps and HPI rims came in today!!

its still a little too wide for my liking, but the only fix now is to narrow the axles and i dont really wanna do that at this point. so i think im going to embrace the width and keep on building on.

ok, so i got my new package of links and shocks today. first thing i did was remove the HPI front shocks and fit back some AX10 shocks. also changed the rear setup, decided ill stick with fourlink in the rear rather than leaf. i just feel it will perform better that way. anywho, pics!!

heres the stance ill be aiming for. so it will still get the longer shocks, but purely so it has some up AND down travel.

still has pretty decent flex despite shorter shocks.

and the link placement. note rear uppers with the shocks mounted inside.

thinking about the chassis, likely that ill be starting it tomorrow, so should i keep the scale/replica factor going and poke the longer shocks out the bonnet, or just lean them back to get the extra length in without cutting up the bonnet??

1.9 trepador sitting on the same monster truck wheel @2.2 i posted earlier. im likely to mount these tires up to the new Axial TR 2.2 beadlocks when i get some.

i think this combo looks Phatt as. love it.

still havent managed to get to the chassis yet... lol but i did get my Trans in the mail today. came with a little fat spur gear on it, so i swapped it out for the larger spur thats matched to the engine. this way i get the stock reduction of 13/50 but then i also get 18/35 for a total reduction of 0.26:1 into 0.51:1 which ends up at 0.1326:1 lol which equals 47.73degrees on the output shaft for every one turn of the pinion. and thats before it goes to the axles. so with those being 13/38 (0.34:1) (the transfer case is 1:1) the resulting final ratio from motor to wheel is 0.045084:1 or 16degrees of rotation at the wheels for every single pinion rotation.

confused yet??

put it this way. if the motor spins at a max RPM of 30krpm thats spinning the wheels at 1352rpm for a maximum speed of

36.11cm(tire o.d) x 1352 = 48820cm/min (= 488.2m/min) (x60 for m/hr) 29292m/hr

or

29.292km/hr top speed.

when you consider that stock, the wraith does 12mph(19km/h) thats not any worse than jumping up to 3s on a stocker. (for those of you who said id never get the gear ratio down - facebook peeps) << all theory of course..

anywho, heres pics!!

likely to lay over the motor as mentioned, with the tranny behind it.

and how it looks atm. I WANT THE 2.2 TRAIL READY BEADLOCKS!!! (just note, i was testing the waters by widening the wraith rims, rear is stretched on a widened rim, front is stock wraith rim but both are modded to take an RC4wd hub.

lol youre being funny i hope :P

gotta make up a trans mount/skid and then mount up the transfer case. i want it to pretty much be one unit like the real thing. so from underneath it will look like a sump, with a transmission mounted behind it.

pretty keen to start that part, maybe even tonight. we shall see what happens when i get home from work.

Ok so I finally gave in to myself and started to cannibalise theThunder Tiger EB4 1/8 scale buggy I have. pulled the center diff/brakes out and sussed out the size against my rims/axle/knuckles.

im 99% sure ill use a modified EB4 diff carrier attatched to new wraith plastic knuckles. and i also think ill end up making some custom cams for the back of the brake pad. so all i need now is to wait for the discs to arrive from RC4wd before i can do any major mounting/clearancing on either part.

heres some pics.

and, how it fits in the wheel.
