I prefer this to the cap mod, and it also makes the shocks about 5/16" shorter than the cap mod, which was helpful for this build.

Although I think your shock bodies could use some lathe time.
You're right. I lathed the collars down when I originally built them so that the Integy caps would seat properly, but at the time I didn't have a lathe capable of doing the rest of the body. I have a lathe now that I think can do it, but my immediate goal is to get this build into roller status. I will definitely lathe them down sometime in the near future, though.

It's funny, when I started building crawlers - more scale than comp - there was a lot of things "I'd do as I had time".
Now it's part of the fun and I've gotten quicker about the little things.

Hurry up and post more photos, your all I got till my boxes get here!

One would think, with All the haggling Purp does, that a build thread would be up and a rolling chassis or atleast a slider would already be posted!

Is there a long shipping time from PURPMART!?

I've been thinking about placing a order, but if UR Waiting on parts, I could only imagine my wait time! ;)

I could build a roller by today but it would be half assed and not worthy of the massive parts list ..... And the order Troy placed at PURPMART is quite extensive and on layaway for Xmas lol

My thoughts exactly... I have parts I could throw at mine, but this chassis deserves better. I'd rather wait a couple of days for the good stuff to come in and do it right than throw it together just for the sake of getting it done.

Dug around in my shock box and found another set of Big Bores, so I went ahead and lathed the bodies down a bit:

Ordered a new rebuild kit and some Ti shafts, so will be putting these together as the parts come in. In the meantime, I'll still be running the set from my old shafty.

My VP parts FINALLY arrived today, so as soon as I got home and had dinner, I exiled myself to the shop (even skipped Monday Night Football ) and got busy. I shared some quality time with my good buddy Mr. Dremel and finished grinding the XR10 universals. After slipping them into the axle I was able to attach the servo/battery plate:

Here's a straight-on shot from the front showing how low the servo plate sits on the axle. It actually rests against the top of the pumpkin, can't get much lower than that.

Put 'em both together and mock up the 3D proto wheels and you get this:

Yep, it's almost a roller, just have to figure out the steering links and driveshafts.
Here're a couple more pics:
