Weird Question but where did you find the miniature expanded metal that you used on the side rails? I have tried everywhere and no one seems to carry it. . .thanks for the info |

I just read through your entire build and i'm amazed, all you metal work and carbon fiber work is amazing. This is one of the best builds I ever saw/read. Nice work! |

Thanks you as well. I wish I could finish it (stupid work busy-ness). All in time (when I retire I guess).

This is one of the most amazing builds I've ever seen. Every detail is utter art. It brings to mind 'If Mclaren ever built a scale RC truck.' It seems a shame in my eyes to paint that carbon work though. A colored clear like what you did with the fire extinguisher would seem like a better choice but I'm sure whatever you do with it will be amazing. -Jeremy |

I like coloured carbon paint jobs too, but I want the rusted metal look. In time, I would like to replace all the carbon bodywork, with formed sheet-steel. I lack the experienced-skill for that, so composite it will be for now.

I only have verbal updates. I so want to work on finishing this rig (dumb busy life!). I did retire one venture, so now I'm no longer working 8-days a week. Even bought a sand-blaster and booth, but now need a larg capacity compressor. Plan is to blast the cage work, and let it naturally rust. Then finish it off. Thanx for looking.

(Luv cut & paste). With the winding down of some of my affairs, I've managed to get some work done. Re-did the drivetrain again. Brazed a new motor mount and spur system, new transfer case (the originally planned one), brazed seat harness mounts from 1/16" steel wire, and glued some foam on the seats. Metals were re-painted gloss black (cuz I had two new cans sitting around), and shot some primer on the ready body parts. New winch, and snatch-block as well (we'll see if this weighty rig blows it up). I'll be installing the electronics back in and re-lighting it all over the next few days, then back to finishing the bodywork. Check the progress:

Got some paint on it. It's all shiney. I used Tremclad Gloss Black and Recreational White. Just have to do the detail painting, then weather it all. Thanks for look'n. |

In the home stretch now. I masked it up for the satin clearcoat, to give my weathering something to grip on to. I fogot to mask the headlight bezels and shroud in my haste, so I'll have to bust out some foil, and see if I can save the bezel's reflective-ness. I just block-sanded the top-most surface of the bezel. Not the exact look I wanted, but oh well. Some of the details: And now for the grime. Black and brown powdered pigments were sponge-brushed on; and as chips and scratches accumulate, I'll weather them with an iron-based rusting kit. Bicycle industry rubber boots on the shifters. A few more scale items to make, and some action figures to drive it, and this rig will be all done (bout time). Then there's videos to make... Last edited by nigelpheron; 12-08-2014 at 12:46 PM. |

Wow! This thing is unreal. Now, if you send that prototype off to the factory for mass production there'll be a lot of happy campers out here. Keep up the excellent work.
