Why thank you sir. I managed to paint it tonight. Came out all shiney. Also made a wee dial indicator; and with a pin, painted the gauge face white, with green and red PSI zones, and the indicator black with yellow point. You'll also notice my second pair of seats, with a black glass fiber skin on the inside, rather than carbon fiber. I didn't waste carbon on the inside; because it will be covered up, when I upholster the seats with 1mm neoprene. Last edited by nigelpheron; 12-16-2012 at 11:22 PM. |

Holmes Hobbies power. Got a Crawl Master Pro 16t and a BR-SL to put under the tree. Ah can't wait, let's try it first, then I can wrap it up. This is my first time throttling a 1/10 crawler. Man you can creep slow, drag brake thing is cool, and throttle input is so smooth. Come on first 1" of snow. |

Heyok goods installed (BEC / DUAL RC SWITCH / BRAKE REVERSE DRIVING), (and soon to be..WINCH CONTROLLER). I installed my old radio. Glitch'n bitch! So I got rid of the glitches with this: Such smooth control (never mind the flat-spot tires, and the driver experiment). NICE SLOW THROTTLE - YouTube I like how the radio can adjust the steering speed. NICE SLOW STEERING - YouTube Spent today making the lighting system. Consists of: -Running lights, (2) 5mm Warm-White headlights, and (4) 3mm Amber signals. -Tail lights, (2) 5mm Red, dim when running, on when Brake, and (2) 5mm Warm-White reverse lights. -Auxillary lights, (6) 5mm Arc-Whites, (2) in Ft. bumper, (4) on the roof). LIGHT SYSTEM TEST - YouTube Merry Christmas all. And thank you Santa, for being in cohoots Holmes Hobbies, Heyok, and Spektrum. |

Boxing Day progress. Made a scale h'whip antenna this morning. Piano wire, lighter springs, heat shrink tube, a brass ball end, and some black epoxy to cap the ends. In action: CB H'WHIP ANTENNA - YouTube |

This is such an amazing build. Can't wait to see it with the body on. Is that balsa wood you are building the interior out of?

Thanx. Yes, you're seing the balsa core, that will be skinned with one layer of 4oz. glass fiber. Composite sandwich panels are very light, and very strong/stiff. See this tutorial. I've since made a new interior since the tutorial one. went with 1/16" balsa, rather than the 1/8". Working on it now actually. Last edited by nigelpheron; 01-01-2013 at 10:59 PM. | Re: Dingo Based Scaler: "The Steelhead". Lots of practice. More progress on the interior today. Got all the balsa core together and filletted. Tranny hump now hides the battery pack, in the lowest place it could be . The spur gear sticks out of the slot on the right Ft. fender / fire wall. A cover will go over the slot, so debris from the right Ft. tire, won't fling into the gears. The balsa shape beside the tranny cover, will be the plug from which the spur cover will be cast from. The cover will also tie the bottom edge of the fender wall together. For the body to slip on / off vertically, the slot / cover has to be seperate. Here's the core panels all filletted. When I skin the core with the fiber lay-up, there will be no air voids in the cornes, and the corner joints themselves will be very strong. And on the runway: Last edited by nigelpheron; 12-29-2012 at 10:28 PM. |

Dasboard started. Using layering techniques like styrene construction, glass fiber plate is bonded into position. I tack the plate in place, with a few wee drops of 5-min epoxy. Then using epoxy resin and the magic of meniscus flow, I apply epoxy resin around the perimeter of the plate, and it wicks underneath bonding the plate on good! Knobs made from red-anodized aluminum bicycle cable end-crimps. The knobs were filled with black epoxy, and will be lathed when dry to make their surface level. The unfilled one, will be used as the ignition key slot. It won't stick out as far as the knobs, so it was sanded rigt to the lip. Check my lipo alarm visual. Painted the tools textured black, and the chassis / cage in textured graphite. Started to skin the interior core, as well as mock up some of the body work. The body work pieces came from flash-molds of a Tamiya FJ-40. I make the pieces I need in a medium I work with, modify them to my needs, then re-assemble them into a new plug. A master body mold will be cast from that, and that mold will give me my body. Started on my jerry cans. Plug made from epoxy-resined balsa, based on aluminum for the seam. I will lay-up the mold over the next few days. Mold #1 done: Last edited by nigelpheron; 01-03-2013 at 09:31 PM. Reason: New Pics |

Got the interior struction done. The glass-skinned balsa core is light, stiff and strong. This vid shows what the glass-epoxy skinned balsa comes out like. PLASTICIZED - YouTube | |

Got some more smaller stuff done. The grill is made up of glassfiber plate, with a surface layer of carbon fiber for lah dee dah-ness, (it will all get painted in the end, with just a little bit of carbon accents here & there). The grill itself is made up the same way as styrene-plate construction. Just a different plastic. You can see here, how the grill plates were attached. Tacked together at the seams, filletted, then glass-clothed in. Next is some covers (like the spur-gear one below), that will seal up them light bezels. I'll wire up some bulbs and install'em, then cover the inner bezel area with auminum cooking foil; wax the foil, then lay-up a few carbon layers right on the bezels. The covers will fit perfectly. Here is the spur cover nearly done. Just have to drill some mounting holes in it, and threaded-insert the corresponding holes on the fender well. None of it was planned. Made the interior and dropped it on; oh no, when turning to right, the tire sprays debris right into the gears. Ok, I'll just make a cover and bond it on; oh no, how you going to remove the body, it has to go verticaly and now the cover is in the way. So then then I made it removable. |
