So I blew a bearing in the front diff. Look at all the sand and dirt in there, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Mainly it got in where I dremeled the plastic to fit the rpm steering. Luckily I have a spare case, now just to wait for bearing kit to show up. |

Ya it needs to be sealed. Lots of grease or some sealant around the base.

I have always used Gorilla Duct tape on my go fast stuff but tried some CRL 777 Butyl Rubber Sealant also made by 3m and have seen it in tape form as well on my Redcat Chimera. So far after 6 packs and 100-110deg diff temps there is no penetration. Never had any with the duct tape either. A key note though is that I do not run in sand or water. My terrain is mainly pulverized granite and clay powder. |

I lay a thin bead around the bottom of the bulkhead and let it cure over night...I've got a video where I open up my bulkhead on video after a whole winter of carnage with out a speck of dirt or water...I also deck the bottom of my bulkhead 1mm..but it causes a little rubbing on the center link... I just put a slight bow to adverse the effects..

Looking nice and clean. Did you shim the pinion? I did both, and so far it's running smooth as silk. Great mods. |

I did the tree bearing mod...had to add 2shims on each side of the center bearing...does that seem right? Turns very smooth

| Re: Aussie yeti XL If you actually built it to spec it couldn't be out... Did you use the right ends? Did you use the right links? There are camber and tie rods. A picture would help us see what you could have done wrong. You could email me a pic.

| Re: Aussie yeti XL First of the CAPS are not yelling lol I appreciate your attitude and passion for anything that has wheels and hauls ass But..I looked closely to the snap ring groove and it looks like it has serious amount of play between the bearing and the snap ring retainer... The third bearing mod was around before the Hd gears were even thought of. Yes I use the third bearing mod on a modified pinion because of its attributes.. now if I'm correct the pinion retaining screws hold the 3 bearings in the housing at the proper mesh... but what retains the pinion from being PUSHED back in....?????..... This was my issue along with the pinion spinning against a FIXED washer... it seems conducive to heat? That is why I was for my HD MOD. It seems like if you were to engage the vehicle in reverse the helical cut would SUCK the pinions in because of the play in-between the bearings and the retaining ring... Also driveshaft movement seems like it would be a issue by pushing the pinion in by suspension compression. But if it works roll with it!! I'm sure you'll put it through hell ! Tzicul you've been a huge inspiration & help on the XL forum to many of bashers but this mod is why we have our differences... I invested time & money into making sure I was recommending a true fix because no one likes a broken rig...and I felt like this setup had its faults.... Honestly the reason I started this thread was just to convince the community that their was a issue with the HD PINION GEAR and we can both agree with that so Thank-you and Merry Christmas

Differences in opinions are what makes all of us moving forward. And we all have to respect the other guy idea. Well, at least when it's some absurd one Merry Christmas to you too!
