Thanks!
If you have a single motor, a single ESC is fine.
For the BEC, set to max listed volts for the servo. If there is no max, then set to highest voltage they list in the specs.

How about a little more info. How much does it weigh? weighted front wheels? What style driving, crawling, bashing or some of both?Anything over 200oz needs a BEC IMO. Anything less just isnt up to the task.

How about a HiTec 7955 direct wired off the pack?

I hope u meant 7950 or even 7954 over the 7955. The first 2 can be run straight from a 2s lipo pack where the 7955 is only rated to 6v, some have gone to the 7v range but usually just on the light. 1.9rigs.

On a class 3 wraith with rear steer, would running a 7954 up front but a 645 in the rear ( because i have several laying around) be a wise choice, or spend the money and make them both the same?

7954 is border line. A deffinate no, no on the 645. Even rear steer requires a powerfull servo, 300oz plus. It has to work pretty hard keeping centered. The 645 wouldn't last long at all. My rear steer servo is going to be a 5995tg. That's 417oz at 7.4v, and can be had for $70. That's a hell of a servo for the cost.

Watch out for the HSR5995tg servo's. I purchased 2 from Servo City and yes great price. Both burned up in less then 2 packs. Not meant for a surface vehicle I was told by Hitec and would not warranty them. SO buyer beware!!!

Ha, I just posted this in another thread. Both my 5995's I got in the recent servo city sale are junk after a couple packs. Should of went with instinct and avoided them.

Ya mine said the same thing but the damn specs and price was kinda worth the gamble!!! Live and learn. Now running 7950 and 7980 in my rigs. No failure since those upgrades. Just no getting around spending the $ for good parts!!!

I really like the Hitec 7950 in my crawler. It is quite the upgrade from the 645.

What is the maximum safe voltage for the 7950 I can set the BEC to?

I wouldn't go above 8.5V, but the servo should handle 9.0V without problems. (It's designed to be run off a fully charged 2S LiPo after all.)

I wouldn't set it any higher than the voltage listed, 7.4v. Anything above that is just going to shorten the life of the servo. Some get away with higher, but it's not worth the risk in my book. It's 486oz at 7.4v, no real need to go more. If your rig needs more, go to the 7980 and set it to the 7.4v.

Thanks for the advice. I want to set it at maximum voltage that is safe for it so I will use 7.4 as the max.

Thanks for the help.

At a minimum, I say a HiTec 7955 or a TowerPro of equal spec (the TowerPro's are knock-offs of the HiTec).

Others may and probably do have more info. Only 2 that come to mind is the Traxxas and the new High Tec 5646 water proof servos. Neither have the torque needed for a crawler/basher. Try Google. That's where i did the search. I didnt come up with much. Marine grease is your friend when water proofing, it's not to hard. Water proof or not elecrtonics don't normally handle water to well. I have everything water proofed but avoid submerging my elctronics.

Is a traxxis high torque waterproof servo a good servo for a axial scx-10 honcho?

Hitek 7950 is the absolute perfect servo for a xr10. Don't waste your time with savox because in my opinion they are only good for raceing. Savox servos can't take the physical or mechanical beating that rock crawling demands from a servo. Spend the coin and get a 7950 and you won't be disappointed.
