I notice hilux wheels, weird looking shackle doodads?

Yea, neil.. You can buy them.

I got it 99% put together. Never opened the body box yet. Thats a whole new project.
I noticed that it doesnt like rolling around with all the driveshafts hooked up. It feels like its binding up when you try to push it along, like.. It just doesmt want to do it at all but, if you simulate the motor turning the spur gear it rolls nice that way. But, if you try to grab a tire to roll it, it doesnt want to. Weird.
Also.. If i turn the spur by hand until the truck starts moving.. And then i start to turn it the other way.. The spur rotates about 3/4 of a turn before it starts moving the truck. Is that because of the 2spd or something?

That'll work.

You guys should mount your front shocks on the back of the front axle for increased steering. Youll have to move the shock hoops back to the next set of holes as well.
How they tell you to do it, the knuckles hit the shock bolts but, it fixes it if you do what I said.

After getting my XVDs installed i took Rick's advice and moved the shock to the rear of the axle, now I have MAD steering.

And the stock tires along side what I am putting on it (thanks to Rick)

I have 2 sets of 1.9 Irok's. One set is brand new and the other set had been smoothed, rounded, sanded, softened, wore in. They are drastically different in size compared to the new set.

Could I modify a set of 1.7 Iroks in a similar fashion? Is that legal? They would start off as a legal tire but, then I would do what I mention above to them.

I'll post a pic in a minute of what I'm talking about. I think they look better modified and they are softer.

my transfer case is gritty... real gritty. it will spin and then catch on something and be difficult to turn with your fingers unless you spin it the other way.

typical and somewhat expected... i opened it up and checked everything, flopped the idler, still gritty. it isnt so bad if the tcase side cover isn't torked down.

transmission feels good. chassis is nice. body seems cool. i dunno how dropped i feel the bed is.

leafs are crap. all 4 of my main leafs are differently arched. using tamiya springs for sure.

its cool and all... but not at all tamiya or axial quality.

My transfercase wasn't gritty but, it was a little on the stiff side though. It would spin both directions without hanging up but, if you tried to spin it fast.. It would be too stiff to free wheel and keep spinning. I dont think its stiff enough to heat up motors or anything though.

Yea, I wasn't really a fan of rc4wd's stuff before this truck but, after looking at all the build thread, I felt it was a good deal for a kit that was already put together and with new drivetrain components and whatnot.

I noticed my leafs were a little tweaked when i put them in but, i figured it wasnt enough to make a difference. I might look into the tamiya ones too. My current setup is really stiff still. It wouldnt have all 4 tires planted if I had a nickel standing up under one of them. Not like your f350 at all.

You guys heard about shaving a little off the top leaf edge at the mount point? Supposed to be an old trick to help with articulation and flex.

The Chino mod you do your self, but there are Chino Military Wrap Leaf Springs but they are out of stock at RPP. You could contact Chino63 directly and see if he has any on hand. I know he mainly deals directly with RPP.

What we have feel and look like stock tamiya leafs. The mounts are identical. Sometime when I am ready to blow 70 bucks I would consider some shooters.

the chino mod gives the springs a little room to twist a little in the shackles, but its not really that much of an improvement imho. i tried it on the f350, and while it did allow the springs more room to twist and i got a little more flex, it also added slop and stiction to the travel. it never seemed like the suspension would 'center' after the chino mod.

those funny shackle things on the f350 are traxxas ballends mounted to the ends of the leafs. the f350 setup feels like butter and never ever wanders around between the shackles. night and day difference between in smoothness and huge articulation gain over stock or the chino mod. a little funky looking (i'm just going to start with the inboard mounts on the tf2) but like i said its night and day difference.

not trying to sound like the know it all leaf guy. feel free to chino your leafs...

Rick should be able to do your mad and even though you lose a little of the scaliness, it is an amazing mod for function.

I don't believe that I could drill through the leafs to make it work for me.

not at all tough to drill compared to the axial hardened lockers...

i'm going to traxxas mod just the inside leaf mounts at first and keep the shackles with the normal spring end. after i modded the f350 i noticed most the twist was located on the inside. we'll see.

By inside, you are referring to the V shaped solid mount parts? Currently they are towards the middle of my truck but I am swapping the front around.
