What rims are people using that are bigger than 2.2 but dont run a traxxas bead?? im looking for some 2.5 - 2.8 size rims. and dont specifically have to be beadlock. ive searched google and found the proline 2.8 rims but they have the traxxas bead, and everywhere else is discontinued. any ideas? |

The question is what kind of tires do you want to run and why?

Motoworx 2.8 beadlocks. Cost an arm and a leg but best ones I've seen yet. You can backorder and he will build for you... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

heres my build for those wondering why i want them. Klampyz F350 basically, 2.2 rims just look too small. i have ordered 2.2 baja claws for the 5.8inch height. i tried fitting up 40 series tires but i feel theyre just a little on the large side. i tried asking Duuuuuude if he could make me some non beadlock 2.5 inch rims but hes not happy with how the glue groove comes out so knocked me back there. heres a set of 40 series i glued 2.2 sidewalls into. compared to the 2.2 treps. i feel like the new Baja claws will be just the right size, but its still the rims that look a little too small as theyd scale out to 13inch which is truly a bit small for this truck. |

So you want it to "scale out"? Or do you want big exagerrated wheels? Are you dead set on 2.8s? Check out rc planet...they have hundreds of wheels.

Yeh close to true scale size. Doesnt have to be "2.8" but def bigger than 2.2 I have no fear on stretching tires a little, i just feel the 2.2s get lost under such a large truck. Unless you all think it looks ok with the 2.2s |

Nah. Go 2.8. 2.2s are too small. I would cut n shut the tires to 6.5 or so...but thats just me.

thats actually not a bad idea. i may consider doing this if theyre still too small once they arrive. i was considering running 17mm hex buggy rims at 3.0 but reversing out the dish. could work. hmmmm ill wait and see how the the claws look once they get here. thanks for all the input so far. |

I use the 2.2 RC4WD Baja Claws with the Gmade gt 2.2 air wheels ($21). The stock baja claws are 145mm height and 52,5 width and when inflated to 35mmHg (0.67psi / 0,05bar) they become 160mm height and 60mm width, which is 6,3inches. Also they look very cool, they have a nice round sidewall! Here is a picture of them mounted on my prototype 1:6 Jeep Wrangler TJ: |

that actually looks pretty good, where did you get the rims for $21?? o_0 everywhere i look theyre up in the $100+ range??? the 2.2 rims still look a little small, but maybe thats just gonna have to be accepted.. im not paying for the metal 2.8 beadlocks. here is my post in the other thread i started in the wheel n tire section. is the GT air system just a needle valve style fitting? im sure i can retrofit something similar into some bigger rims, as i was already considering trying to glue in car valves....

Gmade Gt air wheels: 2.2 GT Air system beadlock wheels (2) [GM70081] : JunFac.com Yes, they are needle valve configuration, I use a manual blood pressure meter (sphygmomanometer) to inflate them to accurate pressure. Here are some pictures of the valve: GMade/Junfac Pneumatic wheel system - Forums |

Since the large scale segment of off-road RC is such a tiny market, I wouldn't expect any manufacturers to be making wheels/tires for us. | |

yeh, the thing about 2.8 rims is they were common at one point. some of the monster trucks from HPI and others back in the day all ran nice deep dished, wide offset 2.8 size rims. these days they seem to have stepped up to 3.0 instead.. which makes a 6th scale vehicle run 18inch rims. also not out of the question, but not exactly common place either. oh well. ill be placing my order for the 3.0 rims i put up^^ tonight so will see how they fit up when i get them . i am very much a fan of the inflated tires tho. and do strongly believe ill be going that way about it. ill have to find some cheap valves .. |

If you find valves or anything else related to air tires please post it here. Apart from the air wheels, I have a couple of non-air wheels that I am willing to convert to air. I tried contacting gmade to request replacement rubber valves for their wheels but after more than a week still no response. I will try to contact Junfac, the principal gmade distributor. Also as an idea you maybe could use sport ball valves (basketball/football/volleyball....). I don't know if you can find anything smaller than that apart from in a specialty shop or from some chinese supplier. |

I found some short car style valves on ebay for $1 each that in considering but for a 2.2 rim theyll be a bit bulky. So beyond that ill search for the rubber style ones and see how i go. Will definitely post up what i find. |

my tires arrived and i also scored a set of the Exceed 2.8 beadlocks, and slipped one on. problem is, when i blow air into the tire it balloons out like a big round donut. i figure if i put tape inside the tread then it wont expand the way i want it to. and as the tread is SUPER SUPER soft, stretchy and sticky, its going to make it very thin and id be nervous about it puncturing/ tearing im thinking i might just run with the exceed tires as theyre a much stiffer rubber and just keep the claws for another build. id love to slip in a small inner tube, coz then i can slip in a tougher inner ring to support the tread, just not sure what tubes id buy for a 2.8 inch rim size? any suggestions? |
